COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Original Dark Lager is brewed according to J.C. Jacobsen’s original recipe. The colour is chestnut. It has a Hersbrucker hop aroma while the floor malted Munich malt adds a caramel character. The carbonisation is gentle and the hop bitterness is soft. Enjoy at 6-8º.

75cl Bottle: best before 25th May 2012, poured into three pilsner glasses on 10th march 2012. Three thin white heads sit on top of a reddy/browny amber body which is almost clear and bright, but not quite. Sweet molasses in the nose; caramel with some fruit and nut chocolate added for good measure. Easy drinking, maltier and sweeter than most dark lagers. Not thick not thin: about right for a lager based beer. Not bad at all, pleasant without being great. Flatters to decieve a bit.

Bottle 75cl. Fruity(orange, citrus) aroma, some bread. Amber color with a quickly disappearing head. Slightly tingling on the tongue. Freshly fruit taste with a caramel hint. A bit of bitterness in the aftertaste.

Geproeft met enkele biervrienden. De eerste keer proeven komt er wat caramel smaak, nadien was er een bizarre smaak die ik omschrijf als tomaten puree uit zo’n klein blikje. Leuke fles, maar het bier kon me niet bekoren.

Very fine & dense off-white to cream-coloured head over totally clear chestnut-coloured beer. Nutty, dark bread, Dunkler Bock-like nose; caramel malts, maltsyrup. Soft bitterish-leafy, with a breadcrust-like character on a sweeter, but again bready background. Hint at liquorice. Initially perfumey, but ending a bit sweet-sticky. Light to medium bodied; quite slick, even faintly oily feel. OK, certainly not a highlight, but compared to what the site once used to turn out...

75cl bottle. Clear brown with a lightly tanned head. Nose : Toffee, coffee malts. Sip : Water to oily with a medium carbonation. Smoky roasted malts. Sweet with little bitter coffee like malts and very light floral background. Overall : I guess this is the moment to enjoy this one. It’s not a rich flavored beer although it has this harmonious balance and simplicity that I might enjoy when the right time comes.

0.75 bottle. Very malty aroma, caramel and coffee come alongside. Clear liquid of a dark red color and an average, creamy, beige head. Bitter taste with some sweetness, not too much though. Well balanced, not astringent but has its strength. Medium body and creamy texture, soft carbonation. Long bitter finish only slightly digressed from the taste. Nice balanced beer, fine malts... I enjoyed this one.
