COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

English: Original Dark Lager is brewed according to J.C. Jacobsen’s original recipe. The colour is chestnut. It has a Hersbrucker hop aroma while the floor malted Munich malt adds a caramel character. The carbonisation is gentle and the hop bitterness is soft. Enjoy at 6-8º.

750 ml bottle bought in june 05, tasted in april 06 - at cellar-temperature. A bit reddish brown. Nice brown head. Incredible malty/fruity nose. Fruity start, heavy volume-feeling. Rich and well rounded. Long. Some burned notes. A fruity/dry aftertaste. I have not given many top ratings.....but this one deserves it!

Malt and molasses, a truly great nose. Sweet flavor, with a fair amount of caramel throughout. Not heavy, but enjoyable and underrated in my opinion.

This is the stuff! Lovely nutty, roasty malty goodness! Red caramel color. Medium body. Tons of flavor and very drinkable. Love dunkels!

Bottle 75cl. Fruity(orange, citrus) aroma, some bread. Amber color with a quickly disappearing head. Slightly tingling on the tongue. Freshly fruit taste with a caramel hint. A bit of bitterness in the aftertaste.

750ml neat looking capped bottle. It is a Carlsberg product so I will be weary but it looks promising. It pours a murky red/brown with a small off-white head. It smells quite on for the style, it is lightly sugary, caramally, and grainy, with a hint of chocolate. No sign of hops, but this is spot on for the style actually. It is rich and full bodied with the exact smells translating into the flavor with a bit more bitter roasty character. It is surprisingly good, though not as supremely drinkable as the Bavarain examples. This one surprised me big time, the Saaz blonde is a bit more expensive but I am willing to try it. Nice looking bottle. I’d not been aware of this brand until stumbling across it in my local BCLDB store. Poured a smallish tan head to cap an attractive clear and dark copper body. Aroma was indistinct, but quite alright. Taste was pleasant, with some malts, and the mouth was comfortable. Nice beer; I could drink more of these.

UPDATED: DEC 7, 2007 500ml bottle Pours a brilliant red-amber lager in the glass with a 1 finger frothy cap which goes to a surface foam that laces the glass well...one would think this was a Vienna by the color. Aromas are pungent: red vienna malts with some raisin/grape skin tones, light coffee notes from black malt husks and a light waft of sweetness. Flavor is where this shines...it crosses the line between a dunkel and a bock chewy dunkel malting with bock dark fruits and some nut and earthy tones mixing with the twiggy-woody flavors of the Hersbruckers...rich rounded body with a soft mouth feel ...dries up cleanly in the finish some black malt astringence...then a bready sweet aftertaste. Avery drinkable and satisfying dark lager...tasty and very primal yet has some subtle complexity. I like this one very much and wish it was available here year long.

750 ml bottle. Light amber color Tan head that disappears quickly. Nice malty aroma with hints of chocolate and perhaps heavy fruits. Flavour is primarily dominated by the roasted malts ending in a pleasantly bitter finish. okay beer.
