3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Can. Pours a clear copper body with a small fizzy off-white head. The nose is rather heavy on the green pepper, with a caramel malt base. The flavor isn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting from the aroma. The caramel sweetness dominates up front, then a slight hop bitterness, then finally some jalapeño pepper on the finish. Not a whole lot of hops in here, but they help tone down the sweetness. Medium bodied and just a bit clingy with fizzy carbonation. Not the biggest fan of pepper beers, but I suppose this one isn’t all bad.

Aroma is light with hop zest and full of pepper. Taste is light and refreshing with a little hop, and pepper taste with little to no burn. Finishes nicely.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12oz bottle. There is one way to mess up your Jalapeno IPA, a crappy base IPA. The regular IPA must be a really shabby 90s throwback. Friggin Laurel. Oh wait, two ways, add cilantro. Shab offering. No heat at all. Juicy and earthy. Drinkable, but a really weak offering.

amber orange pour from can. Fairly malty but strong jala and cilantro flavors. Pretty enjoyable in the proper context.

On tap at Bethesda Food & Beverage. Nice amber pour with slightest head only. Nose is hoppy and spicy, subdued. Taste is hops, pine, spices with obviously chilly kick. Light in the finish. Not a session beer...

3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 11/20
Part of a tasting flight of Jailbreak beers, some months ago Gaithersburg MD. I don’t do hot, cilantro, or hoppy. This beer was so far outside my comfort zone that I almost didn’t try it. Kudos to the brewery rep for convincing me. Somehow those flavors work out to a refreshing drink. Tastes of jalapeños with no heat. Cilantro is there, but not "soapy" as I usually taste it. Hops are there, but not a lot. An IPA lover might not like this at all, but I was quite satisfied.

2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
appearance: clear orange, frothy off-white head. aroma: STRONG aroma of cilantro, with earthy jalapeño, some biscuit and brown bread, maybe a hint of citrus. taste: extremely herbal; the jalapeño note is present in the flavor, but blessedly free of most of the heat; cilantro and general herb garden overpowers a bit of orange zest and a whisper of graham cracker malt. finish: lingering earthy, herbal dryness that I wish would go away; cilantro notes don’t quit. notes: Major points for creativity, and for not making this an overly hot/spicy abomination like the Habañero Sculpin from Ballast Point. But the herbal notes were way out of balance, and ended up detracting from the overall beer. Came across as a gimmick, and I actually like cilantro and jalapeños. Couldn’t finish. Drain pour. Can from Total Wine & More, Alexandria, Virginia.
