3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 15/20
From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. This comes from a trade from as non-RB member. The pour is jet black. It is like India ink and about as black as it can get. Modest but lasting off-white head.On the nose I pick up spent coffee grinds, dark malts, and earthy hops. Thin to medium body makes that its weakest feature. Good malty and coffee character on the taste with those coffee notes intermingled. Smooth on the palate. Reasonably drinkable. Dry ending.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Wonderful example of a straightforward stout. Malty with chocolate, coffee, and vanilla with the perfect amount of hops to keep it from being too sweet.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz. bottle courtesy of dunn4040. Pours black with a moderate, somewhat cream, light brown head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left light patchy lace. Very pleasant aroma that is filled with cocoa and coffee with notes of roast in the nose as well. The flavor is much more centered around the roast with a very minor amount of coffee and even less cocoa. Mild roast bitterness at the finish. No problems.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark cola color with a one finger tan head. Nice retention. Aroma is slightly roasty, cocoa, cracker, and fresh coffee beans. A nice clean stout aroma. Flavor is black coffee, vanilla bean, semi-sweet chocolate, and leaves a smoky aftertaste on the palate akin to smoking a cigar. Fairly straight forward flavors, not overly complex. A decent stout overall. I’ve had this before and I feel like it impressed me a little more the first time I had it. I’ll probably have to come back and try/rate this one again later down the road.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz bottle, shared by a local louisvillian beer enthusiast. Black color. Thin, kind of bubbly light brown head. Good retention. Dots of lace. Nice coffee aroma, awesome big coffee, good roast, light dark chocolate. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Not as chewy or thick as other stouts like this, but very nice still. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet, great roasty coffee aftertaste. Hint of dark bushberry from the coffee, I think. Nice stuff.
