Strong, malty aroma has an earthy overtone and firm hints of cloves and caramel. Pours a clear warm sepia with a fizzy and none too persistent tan head. Rich flavor fills the mouth with malty, earthy and nutty notes plus hints of chocolate, caramel and cloves. Texture has good body, but fizz leaves something to be desired. This, however, is the beer’s only weak spot. Overall, an arresting doppelbock.

22oz bottle. Some thing lurking in the shadows, on the label. Pours oily, reddish-brown color. No head. No fizz. Aroma of toasted malts, liquid brown sugar, molasses, earth, and lager yeast esters. Tastes of burnt sugars, tart malts, toasted grains, burnt bread. Finishes with a little bit of cherry, chocolate malt, and alcohol burn. Thinner bodied than what most would anticipate. Exactly what I had expected from JailHouse and a Doppelbock. (3507)

Clear, auburn colored body, and a very small head were typical for the style. The aroma was difficult to discern due to its faintness. The smells I could detect were cherry, and some raisins. The taste was a bit more complex than the nose, with some semi-sweet chocolate, brown sugar, dates, and red grapes. There was a drying finish that I was not anticipating. The body felt about right for the style. Not bad.

Pours a dark amber with a small white ring. Aroma of dark cherries and grapes. Sweet malts on the nose. Taste like a carbonated wine. Very alcoholy. Hints of spice and floral. Lots of dry dark fruits. Dry lingering finish.

Clear cola brown. Very little head. On the lower side for carbonation, but not really under carbonated. Toasted nuts, slight roastiness like what you get in very light roast coffees. Leaves a slightly sour aftertaste.
