Courtesy of Blazer06, thanks Zack. Bottle pours dark mahogany with mocha looking head. The aroma has some pine hops, earthiness, some more pine hops and a bit of roasty malts to spicy black licorice at the end of the draw. The taste is smooth with malts, roasty malts to near burnt malts followed by firm levels of pine hops and a bit of spicy hops too. Nice one.

Bottle thanks to mixmasterob. Dark black pour, creamy black head and a rich chocolately/peppery nose. Flavor is also rich creamy chocolate biscuits, spicy hops a little smoke and finished with no hint of the 10% abv. I need more of this, and soon. Go out of your way to get your hands on this one!

Bottle... Farewell to ibrew2or3... Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, light khaki head. Good retention. The nose is roasty and a bit smoky; burnt and leathery. Full-bodied with a mildly creamy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. The flavor is burnt, bitter and carbonaceous with afterthoughts of lightly sweet molasses and dark syrup. Finishes singed, bitter and lightly dry. Bottle courtesy of Blazer06!

Thanks to Blazer06 for sharing this one. Pours dark brown with a white head. Nose is coffee, some roast, spices, and bitter citrus. Flavor is similar with roast and coffee mixed with spicy citrus hops. Light to medium-bodied and enjoyable overall.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2011 I honestly didn’t even realize this was supposed to be a black IPA, tasted too sweet/rich/malty and was more like a slightly thinner imperial stout. This is a good thing, as I like stouts and hate Black IPAs. Would definitely drink again.

Appearance: Pours out an ebony-hued body with a towering, light tan body. Modest lacing. Smell: Well-roasted malts, but also some toasty accents, too. Sweet-scented elements of chocolate and caramel candy are plentiful. A little candied citrus makes its way to the imbiber’s nose, but it is not a very hoppy scent. Also, a smidgen of alcohol is in there. Taste: Starts with char, then flashes to moderately roasty coffee, then settles to semi-sweet chocolate and dark caramel. Citrusy, lightly pine-flavored hops, though predominately citrus-based. Moderately bitter. Pinch of sweet licorice candy, some cauterized toast, and a drop of prune juice. Goes through being roasty, resinous, bitter and with a bite of a chocolate bar and a bite of soul-soothing alcohol until the dry finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Overall: I liked it fairly well. The malts were prevalent without leaning on too much guh-inducing astringent black malts, the hops were bold without ever being harsh or ghastly, and the booze, while, yes, it is noticeable, isn’t overbearing. However, those pesky hopheads might always yearn for more and more hard, unyielding hop bitterness.

Bottle. Pour a deep black with a thick tan beige head. Scent is hoppy. Taste is earthy bitter with a nutty hint. 10% very well hidden....be careful :)).

Black with a tan head, aroma is some hops and roasted malt. Flavor is strong hops at first which fades into a roasted malt with slight coffee notes. Aftertaste is rather sweet and is where the strong alcohol makes it’s presence known. That aftertaste becomes more prevalent as the beer warms a bit. Solid blend of styles here.

Thick & black with a tan pillowy head. Nose is smoky tobacco with chocolate notes. Semi-sweet chocolate taste, with a lactic feel on the palate. This beer is good, but tastes more like a stout than an IPA-no hoppiness at all.
