12 ounce bottle from Bestway in Greensboro, NC, which I purchased for the Jamaica tick, forgetting completely about Red Stripe. Duh. Oh well, this will undoubtedly be much better. Pours a deep brown color appearing black in the glass. Medium head with decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of slightly dirty roasted malts with some slightly acrid smokiness. I guess that pretty much means the aroma is slightly bad. The taste is roasted malts, caramel, nuts and an almost bourbon-like quality. Tart throughout. The taste is almost good, which is to say, slightly bad? Thin-medium bodied. Overall, this is slightly bad. Which is to say almost good? Or mostly good? Who’s to know? I guess that all goes to say that this is pretty much average.

I really had some high hopes for this stout, but I am a bit disappointed. It looked like the perfect combination, Jamaica, Stout, but the end product is kind of plain. For some reason this beer tastes fruity, like a dark beach drink. Honestly, I would rather have Red Stripe right now.

Pour is a black with a smal tan head, Aroma is roasted malts with some lingering chocolate in the backround. Flavor is some sour dark fruit with a earthy malt. This is kinda wierd and i don’t think I need another.

Strykzone (4781) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - MAR 26, 2010
Bottle at Erato. Typical pour for a stout with a bit more red than most. Decent sized tan head. This beer is all about anise. Aroma and flavor both offer lots of it. Some dark fruit in the flavor, roasted notes. Thin at times but medium bodied at others.

I’m a big lover of stouts but nothing really stands out about this particular one. It has a malty flavor but I would consider it to be one dimensional.

Almost black color, with some light shining through. Modest aroma. Taste is toasted malt. Little hops!

12-oz. Pours jet black with a fairly dense but rather sudsy and pocked tan head. Loose strings of tan lace on the walls of the glass. Falls away pretty quickly. Mild chocolatey nose. Creamy medium body, soft carb. Chocolate and roast with a bit of prune on the mid-palate. Mild sweet pruney chocolate finish.

bhensonb (10691) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 22, 2009
Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a decent tan head. Aroma of dark lightly burnt malt with something lightly herbal. Medium body with rather creamy carbonation. Flavor is dark, almost with a touch of tar. A good straight forward stout. Not a trace of heat. Good drink.

roder60 (1282) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 30, 2009
Poured a dark brown color with small amount of bubbly tan head. Aroma is a bit sweet and molasesy with slight dark fruit and a tad bit of roastiness. Flavor seems a bit watery to me. Light and sweet, slight roastiness and fruit flavor. Could not believe when I saw this was 8%abv. Overall, a bit weak flavor wise Could use some more malt base.
