While not the best stout, this certainly ranks up there with the better ones. I smelled a hint of cocoa powder, and a dark chocolate bar. Personally, I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to enter the world of stouts.

Pours deep brown with a thin tan head. The nose is subtle chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Creamy full mouthfeel.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown with virtually no head. My initial thought is "this is going to be a watery, terrible beer". The nose is very light (yet another concern) with hints of roasted malt and molasses. Light carbonation and a bit of a chewy mouthfeel. It leaves a little coating on the tongue. Based on the taste, I wouldn’t call it watery. Initial palate reminds me of scotch. Along with it there are earthy notes, tastes of molasses, burnt sugar, and some alcohol. Perhaps some oak? Lighter in body, but big on alcohol and big on taste.

Malty aroma with a little bit of chocolate, with a lovely black color. Sweet flavor with a malty finish. Hints of coffee and anise. Definitely a sipping beer, though a little too sweet and malty for my tastes.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2007 Originally reviewed back on 6/24/04. Received 3.55 score. Added to my RB list to check "Jamaica" as a beer country consumed. Deep dark liquid with nary a head. Anise and coffee notes. Medium palate. Not a heavy stout.

Bottle (300ml): Coffee-black coloured, small brownish head; sweet coffee, dark malt and roasted malt in the nose, hints of liquorice, too; not very dry bitter flavour, medium bodied; fruity and (port-)vinous finish with a lingerin (malty-)bitter aftertaste. A good and easy-drinking Stout........
