Sweet chocoate, vanilla, lavender and red licorice in the aroma. Opaque brown body with low tan head that recedes to ring. Chocolate and strawberry flavours with a lactic character and mild roasty bitterness. Medium-ful body with low carbonation and fair alcohol warming. Bottle (trade, Dec-04) sampled with MartinT, Oivier_MTL and Rastacouere. Thanks, Degarth!

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Iím a big lover of stouts but nothing really stands out about this particular one. It has a malty flavor but I would consider it to be one dimensional.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
12 ounce bottle from Bestway in Greensboro, NC, which I purchased for the Jamaica tick, forgetting completely about Red Stripe. Duh. Oh well, this will undoubtedly be much better. Pours a deep brown color appearing black in the glass. Medium head with decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of slightly dirty roasted malts with some slightly acrid smokiness. I guess that pretty much means the aroma is slightly bad. The taste is roasted malts, caramel, nuts and an almost bourbon-like quality. Tart throughout. The taste is almost good, which is to say, slightly bad? Thin-medium bodied. Overall, this is slightly bad. Which is to say almost good? Or mostly good? Whoís to know? I guess that all goes to say that this is pretty much average.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
12oz bottle pours dark brown/black with thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, and molasses. Taste has an astringent bitterness that is really off putting, roasted malts and chocolate taste almost chemical.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Sampled at the first annual Medicine Hat Beer Festival. Clear dark brown with amber highlights. Aroma is sweet caramel and chocolate with candy-like elements that bring to mind Tootsie Rolls. Lighter palate that is thin on burnt malt and dominated by syrupy sweetness, saved (somewhat) by a dry finish. Pretty average, but a very pleasant surprise to have found a foreign stout I hadnít tasted at the Medicine Hat Beer Fest!

Sharp chemical aroma. Taste of cheap chocolate and rum. Slightly alcoholic with a sharp aftertaste and no bitterness.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small foamy brown head that faded fairly quickly. The aroma was faint licorice and molasses. The flavor was roasty and dryish with notes of licorice, wood, bourbon and fruity hops. Medium length finish with roasty malts, wood and licorice lingering. A bit thin in body for a stout. Ok.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Malty aroma with a little bit of chocolate, with a lovely black color. Sweet flavor with a malty finish. Hints of coffee and anise. Definitely a sipping beer, though a little too sweet and malty for my tastes.
