2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Sort of a bland, not very sweet caramel aroma. Nice amber color with no head at all. Near medium body with very little carbonation. Sort of a bland not very sweet caramel with hints of hop. Decent enough, but not anything to get excited about. I suspect the bottle is atypical in that it lacks carbonation, but I don’t think more fizz would change my feeling.

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
12 ounce bottle from the Woodmans on Gammon Road, Madison WI (December 2006), served out of the fridge into a Unibroue glass. The big fluffy off-white head is huge-bubbled and fades very quickly atop the very clear dark amber body....excessively sweet, honey’d syrupy peaches batter you in the nose with very faint citric acidic notes showing up to no avail..... the body is awfully, awfully sweet as well, loads of caramel, butterscotch and vanilla which might be fun in a barley wine, but here they are not supported by enough of a malt base and there is virtually no hop presence....slick and syrupy all the way through; I suspect this was better before Point took it over. In any case, I find it barely drinkable now.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Copper in appearance. A bit of head and a few spots of lace. Nose is very malty and slightly dusty. Overly sweet, sticky and a bit flat. I must say I am not digging this, not in the least.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle from Park Lane Liquor in Lancaster, CA, bottle states it is from Minneapolis, MN. The beer pours a glowing orange-amber color with a minimal off-white head that bubbles away to nothing immediately. Lacing is virtually non-existent. Tart fruit and light malt aroma. Medium-bodied with a tart fruit and pungent malt flavor that makes me wonder if this beer predates the Stevens Point ownership. Very little hops are present. The finish is fruity cough medicine. Pass.
