COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed using Nelson Sauvin and Amarillo hops this sessionable pale is sure to please. “One Fifty Lashes is a refreshing Australian-style cloudy pale ale with restrained bitterness and a clean, smooth finish. It’s an easier-drinking beer than others in the James Squire range and a familiar style that Australian beer drinkers will recognise. The use of malted wheat also adds to its refreshing character delivering a beer with a fruity nose and hints of passionfruit, grapefruit and citrus,”

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2011 Pours a mild lemon colour with a head that diminishes quickly. Aroma is similar to a wheat/fruit beer with cheap ale yeast/malts.. is this a pale ale?? Taste is also very similar to a wheat/fruit beer.. very low IBU. I would not buy this again.. If there are hops in this beer they are very few and far between and its certainly not an American pale ale.

Pretty bad beer, but at least it is drinkable, an ok alternative compared to the normal crap on tap at most Pubs.

Appearance - Golden straw colour, light carbonation, low head retention, good clarity Smell - Light Malt, Banana, Kiwi, mandarin.. Overall fruity, not a strong aroma Taste - Light carbonation, light hops, malt sweetness, mild fruit flavours. Little after-taste Mouthfeel - low/medium weight with light carbonation. Drinkability - Light beer of which you could drink a few, needs more carbonation to make it more drinkable. A drink to guzzle on a hot day Overall - Not a bad beer, but generally bland and uninspiring Printed on the side of the bottle : A clean finishing, Australian-style cloudy pale ale for cracking refreshment. Malted what adds to it’s refreshing character and a concoction of hops creates fruity aromas with hints of passion fruit, grapefruit & citrus

On tap. Cloudy golden in the pint glass. Faint hops and malt, but not as nicely balanced as other pale ales. Average looking, average tasting. Nothing really stood out about this beer for me. Smooth finish. Not terrible, but not something I would go out and buy either.

Bottled. A golden beer with a white head. The aroma has notes of dusty hops and malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, grass, and herbal hops, leading to a bitter finish.

(Bottle) Slightly hazy straw colour with tiny white head. Aroma of grapefruit with some floral and cardboard notes. Light bodied and moderate but quite coarse fizzy carbonation. Flavour is overall rather watery and light. It starts quite pleasantly with a nice balance of citrusy tartness and very light malt sweetness. However it then falls rather flat followed by developing a not very pleasant rather metallic bitterness. Not James Squires’ best.

I took of the top and poured away. It may have been my mind playing tricks, but this appeared almost green in the glass with no head to speak of and a faint haziness. Ah well, thinks I, lets have a snort. My nose isn’t insubstantial and can usually detect a good raft of aromas. From this I got a dollop of gooseberry, unripe greengages grapefruit and other aromas that suggest either this beer is a little young or a little bit... well... anyway. The first taste made me think I was going to regret paying for this. It was just a bit rubbish if I’m fair. I got that green fruit and a flavour of chewing on leather and leaves. Mercifully, this subsided after a few more mouthfuls and it became a much more pleasant session pale ale. However, I would point out that I would drink it again if it was put in front of me, but I will not be paying for the pleasure thank you.
