COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
James Squire Australian Strong Ale is a no-expense-spared beer, brewed to the glowing russet colour of autumn leaves. Crystal wheat and several malted barleys produce deep toasted flavours with a rich toffee edge. Lifted floral hop notes of rare Australian hops complement the profoundly malty, biscuity flavours and the apricot/fig esters created by wild ale fermentation.

An orange beer with a beige head. The aroma is quite sweet and malty, and the flavor is also sweet malty with a touch of metal from the alcohol.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear, warm amber with an off-white head. Very fruity nose. Very full body with some caramel and the alcohol shining through a bit too clearly. Sweetish with a lightly hoppy finish. 150306

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2004 Bottled, thanks duff! Dark ruby, rich dense head. Aroma of chocolate and "punsch" (sweet arrack liquor) Sweet and soft. the alcohol is present, along with the fruitiness and a lot of toffee/chocolate. Solidly malty and flavourful. Interesting and unusual, but perhaps not very complex.

Cloudy amber color. For me, it’s a poor brew, just boosted by the alcohol, but below average (alcohol, caramel…).

Bottle at Chris_O bottlefest 2007. Amber colour with thin beige head. Grapefruity aroma. Sticky toffee in mouth. Not that great to be honest. Fine if unsubtle.

Bright golden-brown colour. Aroma is earthy, slighlty molassesy. The body is a little light. There’s some mild brown sugary malt notes and slight alcohol in the finish. Doesn’t drink like a strong ale - Australians are even more timid than Canadians with their micros.

Bottled at Chris_O Fest March 2007. A copper coloured beer. The aroma suggests a certain amount of age. Some buttery notes also. The taste is nice and hoppy with a good malt balance. Good alcohol flavours also. Nice but I wonder if it could be better younger.

330 ml bottle. Deep orange beer with a thin white head. Very sweet and honeyish. Toffee and some crystal malt. Light hopping, low bitterness. Very unidimensional and boring.

Clear copper with a thin light tan head and a deep caramel malt aroma. Crisp sweet malty body with a light bitterness throughout. Dry finish hides the alcohol quite well. A respectable and drinkable English strong ale from Down Under.
