James Squire Colonial Wheat Beer is a handcrafted tribute to Squire’s refreshing brew. Indeed, the finish invokes a tartness reminiscent of Squire’s original beer. This cloudy beer is brewed in antique copper kettles from a blend of fresh wheat, malted wheat and pale malted barley. In the tradition of Hefeweizen, its subtle notes of tropical fruit and spicy clove are created by imported wheat beer yeast, rather than by adding spices in the style of Belgian wit beers. The delicate floral character of fresh Hersbrucker hops complements the mild flavours from the grains and yeast.

Good pour and lovely aroma. But I would have to say that this beer was overprimed, it was as fizzy and can of cola. Spicy tasting, and very citrus.

OLD NOTES OCT 30, 2003 First thing I smell is like candy banana. Quite a strong sweet smell of it too, stronger than other weizen style beers i’ve tried anyway. Pours out light golden colour, fluffy head, but it died fast. Very easy light wheat body with a candy banana sweetness. Not much to end with, slight grassy hop flavour, but nothing really too noticable or offensive. A nice beer.

Tap at docklands (sold as "Waterfront Wheat Ale"). Good wheat beer. Aroma is intensely floral. Flavour is long-lasting, with a sweet start and balancing bitterness. Medium body, and oily mouthfeel. Yellow and cloudy, it keeps a frothy white head.

It is hard to rate a non-German wheat beer because the Germans do such a nice job. Compared to what is made locally (and country-wide), this stands up well. It has the appearance and aromas that you expect from any decent wheat beer, but the palate is a little on the lighter side with a crisper (tart?) finish. A good summer refresher.

Muddy look with a light head. Aromas of clove, lemon and wheat. Fizziness up front followed by the serious sourness. No doubt this is a wheatbeer but give me an Erdinger anyday thanks.
