2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Disappointing but not terrible - a dumbed down version of an APA - thin and watery but quaffable - boring but still better than lager any day. The commercial description is hugely inflated and exaggerated. Nice hoppy aroma doesn’t deliver the goods. Wouldn’t buy again.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: AUG 16, 2014 Bottle. Copper with a cm of pale beige head. Aroma of pine, kumquat, caramel, some grapefruit and pepper. Carbonation pleasantly moderate - ie low for a macro. Very sweet with loads of caramel. Fruit and pine really struggle to cut through and only pepper really adorns the bitterness at the end. OK, hops doing pretty well considering I caught this later than ideal. A few more grew on me a bit.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from Milton Cellars April 2014. Solid pale ale with a good balance of maltiness and hoppiness. Looks good when poured into a glass.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle - pours amber with a thin white head. Pine resin, nettles , oily aroma. Taste up front is caramel before a tempered dry finish. Medium palate. The taste is a lot more balanced than the aroma suggests, compared to some APA.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Light amber medium head. Floral aroma - sweet lemon, fruit, flowers.
Meduim malt presence with some biscuit carrying pine needle, delicate acacia and, what, a kinda rockmelony fruitiness with a slightly bitter conclusion. Medium mouth-feel but nothing IPA-ish. Interesting hoppy complexity while still being drinkable. Worth a try.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Certainly has a long shelf life for an APA. Ambitious!?
Burnished copper and brilliant in the gass with fine, streaming carbonation. Head rouses just a litttle but fails to get out of bed leaving just an island of white. Drenching, caramelised citrus and heavily piney, resinous nose with a smidgeon of honey, sulphur and acetone, nail polish remover. Sweet, tangy, drawing and astringent in the mouth. Puckering almost. Firm body but heavy and a little frumpy from the abuse of crystal malts me thinks. Biscuity, golden syrup front off-set by plenty of pine and peachy, Chenin Blanc notes in the back. Dries out a little in the finish with lasting pine and tree-sap. Mild camphorous note with the acetone cleaned up here. Carbonation is mild and centred around the tip of the tongue. A little chemical in essence but not as shady as I thought it would be. Pulls it off? No! Quaffable? Give it the thumb up! (345mL, BB 20/03/15, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Great flavoursome beer. Very hoppy, but certainly not overpowering. Does leave a grassy flavour in the mouth afterwards though.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
This is a bloody brilliant beer, awesome skanky aroma, molasses, passionfruit, nice balance of malt and bitterness. Nice dark amber colour, creamy head that doesn’t last long. RIght amount of carbonation. For $51.90 AUD a carton at first choice liquor. Haven’t found better for the $ so far.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from bottle to pint which is obviously too big for a stubby... Ar: Floral, Grassy and citrusy, little bit of roast. Smells good / Ap: Dark amber, clear minimal head (didnt pour it real well though...) / T: Slightly sweet start with nice bitter finish / P: Nice mouth feel, perhaps slightly thin, average carbonation, bitter finish / O: Hops are great, nice bitterness and very sessionable although it is cold outside and perhaps that helps. It might not be so sessionable in the middle of a Brisbane summer. Still, it is delicious and certainly seeking out some more.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
From a 345ml bottle on 5/7/2014. Pours a clear deep golden, not far off amber, with a small head. Has a quite pleasant floral aroma with some fruity notes. Taste wise, it begins sweet and malty (caramel, biscuit), follows with some citrus fruit and finishes with a moderate dash of hops. Medium body and average carbonation. Pretty typical of a JS beer in that it’s decent but fails to excite. That said, this probably has a touch more to it than most in their regular range. All up, a pretty good APA, and miles better than their One Fifty Lashes.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
i cant believe i actually bought a js beer for one, and for two actually didnt mind it. kind of like what fat yak should be, a clean, malty amber-pale ale with pleasant piney top notes, and pleasantly swillable texture. of course it’s not very bitter but it’s not sweet either, and theyve done a good job with the malt.
