3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the Portland Brewhouse. Served a mahogany color with a good tan head that fades slowly to nice lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, some chocolate with a bit of coffee and a trace. Tatse of roasted malt, dark chocolate with a bit of coffee. Nice bitterness and a dry finish. Medium body, smooth and quite creamy. Nice balance. Very drinkable beer. Nice take on the style.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2012 It MUST have been a delicious porter, but this was in Cairns, where most pubs serve lousy beer, so freeziní cold that you do not have to feel the flavor. They did the same with this porter. A glass out of the freezer. Beautiful porter, with a great colour and a subtle aroma of roasted malts and a touch of chocolate. The flavour, whatever I could taste from behind the nothingness of the amost freezing beer, was chocolaty, toasty and fruity. I will try a proper serving one day, and renew my rating. Iím sure it must have been a great beer.

Poured a solid deep black with a rapidly dissipating beige head. Picked up some aromas of licorice and spice on the nose. The taste is dominated by roast malts, with some subdued dark chocolate notes coming through. Thereís some crisp hop bitterness at the end to balance things out. Exceeded my expectations. Iím no expert on porter, but liked this one.

In bottle as James Squire Porter. 2 years past best before date. Thanks to Mike for sharing this! Pours a very dark brown colour with a ruby tinge and a decent tan head. Aroma of caramel, chocolate, treacle and alcohol. Similar flavours with moderate carbonation and a foamy mouth-feel. Lovely with lingering chocolate, cherries and caramel. Reminds me a little of Cherry Ripe chocolate bars.

Pours black, with dark ruby. Mine poured with zero head. Almost flat. Maybe a batch issue, or a pour issue.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours almost completely black with a small beige head. Aroma is coffee with some smokiness. Taste is roasted malt with hints of coffee and chocolate leading to a roasted lightly bitter finish. Perhaps a little watery. Pretty nice though.
