Aarleks (402), Sydney, Australia May 21, 2004 Updated: Jan 8, 2006 Bottle: Deep amber colour. Nice creamy head to begin, but diminished fast. Aroma had some stonefruit notes with increasingly noticeable yeast. Slightly smokey background. Good malt crystal/caramel flavour with a bit too much hops for my liking. Perhaps a little too bitter, but a very nice beer.
Re-Rate: I’ve had this a number of times recently and it has really gone downhill. It has become a bland, cardboardy beer with some smokey biscuit notes and cloying flavourless sugars. Very sad demise.
TheGrandMaster (1617), Auckland, New Zealand Dec 23, 2008 Draught, came with a think foamy head and laced very well. Toffee malt and big fruity hops on the nose. Not so good on the palate though, dry and minerally, with some sweetish malt. ComradeK (21), Australia Dec 14, 2008 From the bottle. Rather a good beer. Dark gold colour, medium head. Full-bodied taste with a strong finish. Typical top-fermented characteristics. Quite expensive for an Australian beer, but worth the price. kearnsy (31), Melbourne, Australia Nov 30, 2008 Bottle. Amber with white off-white head. Malt aroma with some fruit. Flavour was sweet with not much bitterness with a nuty finish. Fizzy palate. light body. didn’t light my fire kempicus (231), Wellington, New Zealand Oct 25, 2008 Tried thanks to Sally! This is very easy drinking like the description says, it’s extemely well balanced and a well rounded beer, slightly overcarbonated....i expected that but a very accomplished beer non the less! Like the IPA, this is pretty solid representation of the style. Maybe not the most exciting style, but very drinkable, plenty of flavor considering, slightly overcarbonated, but really very decent.
