Bottled. Dark amber. Fine hoppy nose; nutty-ish. A bit thin with notes of chocolate and ok bitterness.

Sampled from draught at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2004 (#6).
Dark amber colored beer with a red gleam and a tall light tan head. Sharp in the aroma. Yeast, malt, spices, hops and peppery tones. Dry and bitter hoppy in the flavor. Plenty of spices and citrus. Some harshness and a dry finish. Good one, though quite atypical Jämtland.

Fruty aroma. Dark red in color. Nice tast of hops and feels a little bit dry. This brewery knows how to make good beer!

Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival. Sugary lemonade nose, dewy, refreshing. Flavour: I was just wondering what was so unfamiliar with the hoppiness but ah yes, the hops seem to be from the garden of the brewer. I found it nice but could not put my finger on what it was like, probably not so accentuated as the malt profile, which is very nuanced, given the fact that Maris Otter and so many other malts are used. It finishes with a medium bitterness.

Amber color. Typical hoppy aroma. Hoppy, vinous flavor with a nice body. But I think this beer needs some time before it gets really good. I will rate it again.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2004 This ale marks the 20th anniversary for master brewer David Jones, the man behind the fine beers from Jämtlands. He tried to re-create the first brew he made back in 1984, the “Dogbolter” from memory. The result is the Anniversary Ale. A special feature is the hops. Part of them is wild hops that David and his neighbours grow in their gardens. The other ingredients are Maris otter pale ale malt, caramel malt, pure crystal malt, crystal malt, chocolate malt, Challenger and Braming cross hops. The colour is dark amber, the liquid is clear, the foam is white and quite small. The major smell is a sweet one with hints of black currant. There is a small sticky feel to it. The carbonation is pretty strong, it borders to being too strong. A first sweet taste is soon replaced with a growing bitterness. There are some flavours of diacetyl and dry herbs. The aftertaste is quite simple with a metallic bitterness. I must say that I am, for the first time, disappointed over a beer from Jämtlands Bryggeri. It seemed unfinished, unbalanced and straggling. The beer that is being reviewed was a premier at the Stockholm Beer Festival. Hopefully, the beer just isn’t 100% developed yet: It will be interesting to see if it will come to produktion..

Sampled draught at Stockholm Beer Festival.
Deep ruby, small head. Flowery aroma. Dryisn and firm with caramelly malt character and fairly clean mouthfeel. The hop character is less obvious in this beer than in most other Jämtland beer, leavning more space for malt flavour. Good stuff!

(sampled draught at Stockholm Beer Festival) Clear ruby brown with a small dissapearing tan head. Big well rounded aroma of milky chocolate, toffee and spices. Soft and full flavour of toffee, milky chocolate, grass and cocoa. Spicy wild hops in finish with lot’s of dark chocolate and earth. Well rounded body but I would like more depth in this one.

Keg @ Stockholm Beer Festival
Dark red in colour. Plenty of head, though it disappears quite quickly. Hoppy nose with fresh (!) vegitables note. (Pleasant). It has a sweet and balance hoppiness, which develops into an intense aftertaste. The future for this beer in uncertain. Might be a one off, or it might not, according to the brewery.
