3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Bottled) very dark brown-red color with a medium, tanned head. Roasted, quite dry aroma, but with some caramely-plummy maltiness and moderate hopping. Very roasted-malty, but still quite dry and ashy flavor. Smooth, chalky, medium-bodied palate. A tasty and quite complex dunkel.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2005 Bottle - re-rated, and glad I did
Godd complex aroma: Pine, Marzipan, roses and milk chocolate.
Dark chestnut colour, tanned creamy head.
Milk chocolate, burned, strawberry minerals and slightly ashen notes dominate the flavor. Medium body.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2004 Sampled from draught at Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2004 (#50).
Dark brown beer with a fine brown head. Sweet and full aroma of malt, chocolate and caramel with creamy and Jämtland yeasty notes. Mostly sweet in the flavor, roasted malty with spice, hop and fruit. Tasty and well-balanced and really smooth. A beer I could drink again and again.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Very dark colour, nearly black; dark greige-brown head, fast dissipating. Very (dark)bready, chocolate & varnish nose. Bread aroma gets more burnt - Maillard? Dry, bitterish taste. Grainy flavours like specific dark grains, roaste barley or oats; slight acidic finish included. Bit smoked too. Mouthfeel bit thinnish, unlike all the grainy flavours would suggest. Good dark bottom-fermenting beer. 'Starkol' is Scandinavian perception. Big thanks to Bjorn & Anders for the Jämtlands choice.
