4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 bark (255) - Linköping, SWEDEN - OCT 2, 2004
Medium sized bubbles, light brown foam, and dark red-brown colour. Lots of foam and a massive crater!
The beer has got a strong, typical smell for an un-pasteurized brew: Lots of diacetyl and an almost chemical smell of malt.
The carbon oxide is fresh and surprisingly strong for an ale, but it works OK with the firm mix of malts.
The bitterness is almost perfect: Strong and robust. Yet, it doesn’t get out of hand but it balances the complex blend of malts (Goldings and Caramel, I think) in a great way. There are some tones of fruit and a passing hint of parfume. The long aftertaste is first dominated of the sweet, buttery taste of the malts but after some time, the hops rises to the surface followed by a little sweetness.
A very skilfully crafted ale, recommended to all lovers of this style. Frankly, I am impressed of the small Jämtlands Bryggeri, located in the north of Sweden: The Jämtlands Pilgrim can easily compete with the best British ales!
The name of this beer comes from the small village “Pilgrimsstad” (Pilgrim’s Town) where the brewery is located. The town was part of a medieval pilgrim route to the northern Norwegian town Trondheim, where the mortal remains of St. Olav (the most important saint in Scandinavia at the time) is buried.

Bottle. Beautiful red brown body. Fully lasting head, a bit fluffy. Very fresh aroma, with pineapple. The flavour has a fruity start which develops into coffee. Very dry and bitter finish. Pleasant carbonation. Interesting development of flavour. (Ånn, 02.04.07)
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Koyo (249) - SWEDEN - OCT 8, 2010
Tried on bottle. Pours a nice amber colour with a thick foam that disappears too fast though. Taste is rich with some bitterness.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Steely (241) - , SWEDEN - OCT 9, 2008

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Die_Kapusta (190) - Malmö, SWEDEN - SEP 27, 2010
Dark amber pour. Minimal white head with big bubbles. Aroma is grass, sunflower seeds, caramel, rye bread, and dark roasted coffee beans. Taste is a bit burnt, a bit acidic, malty, dark sirup, resin and some suttle coffee notes. Long bitter finish. Not bad.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Croff (164) - Ostra Sonnarslov, SWEDEN - JAN 10, 2010
UPDATED: JAN 20, 2010 Dark brown with a reddish tint. Aroma is hop and yeast bread, really gets the attention of your nose. Nice fluffy off-white head that fades after a while to lace, and the lace is there to the end. Taste is slightly sweet, medium bitter, dry, hints of chocolate and coffee. Finnish is dry, hoppy and a bit of sweet. Lot of things going on with this brew, all good. Lots of body. A lot of character for sure. I really like this one and recommend to all.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Belgo (154) - Køge, DENMARK - AUG 21, 2005
Bottle. Brown with a firm lasting head. Extremely malty nose with a lot of british hops also. The taste is also very malty with lots of toffee and with the hops adding flowery notes and a lovely fresh bitterness. This is clearly a beer within the British Ale tradition but it seems as a mixture of Scottish maltiness and English hoppiness. Very good.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JustinBathurst (134) - Corner Brook, Newfoundland, CANADA - JUL 14, 2008
Pours a deep red-orange with a 2 cm tan head. Leaves a bit of lacing.
Smells of coffee, celery, licorice, lemon. It’s fairly fruity in aroma, which I’m noticing to be fairly common for nearly all the Swedish beer I’ve tried. They also seem to share a similar hops profile.
Mouthfeel is a bit creamy with medium carbonation.
Taste is hoppy bitterness, roasted malt, honey, grapefruit, toffee, and a tiny bit of strawberry jam.
Not bad at all.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 LarsHolmer (112) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 17, 2003
This brewer must be a fan of the British Ale. So many of the best beers in Sweden the last ten years comes from this brewery.Check out the ChristmasAle (Julöl) if there are any left. But this is more like an English bitter with alower alcohol but a higher bitterness.
