3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6747) - Antwerpen, - AUG 3, 2009
Shortlived good head, cream-pink, over hazy dark red-amber beer. Fruity, slightly vinous nose, also slightly woody. Cherrywood? Dry, again pretty woody taste. As in the aroma, faint cherry- or other dark stone-fruitflavour, but subdued. Some liquorice, but not obvious. Bit thin for a Barley Wine, but at least medium bodied. Alcohol subdued, if some warming; bit slick. OK, but a good BW can stand quite a good hopdose. There might be more around here.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MoritzF (7402) - Bochum, GERMANY - FEB 28, 2010
(bottle, 30cl, as JantjeŽs Barley-Wine, 9.0% abv) Hazy, mahogany colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Sweet and slightly toasty malty aroma with a spicy Belgian yeast character, accompanied by subtle fruity notes and nutty, leafy and woody accents. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a moderate carbonation. Moderately toasty malty taste with a tinge of candy and subtle fruity notes (raisins, figs); sweet and slightly toasty and fruity finish with spicy and slightly nutty notes and a well-hidden alcohol. Likeable brew, but not that what IŽd expect from a Barley Wine. 22.II.10

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ober (2260) - Bommelerwaard, NETHERLANDS - JUN 5, 2009
A cear red/brown colored beer, with a beige head. The aroma of caramel malts, with fruity sweet, some raisins with apple. The taste is sweet from the caramel malt, hints of chocolate, fruits like raisin. A little watery. The aftertaste is sweet with some bitter.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 bierkoning (8109) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - OCT 23, 2007
Bottle. Deep dark brown color. Grain and apple in the slightly vinous aroma. Grainy sweet, alcoholic flavor with apple, cinnamon and molasses. Thin. Poor quality brew.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 SHIG (2707) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - OCT 12, 2007
Bottle: Poured a dark murky brown black in color, very reactive floating chunks bounced off the jello creamy beige color head. The aroma was a bit sweet and full of alcohol, which burned the nose hairs just a touch. Very deep earthy dark malt filled the palate of my tongue, leaving a noticeable bruning sensation on each taste bud. Over all the best brew that I have tried by Maasland!
