COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Genuinely brown in appearance, this rich Southern English ale is sweetly balanced on the palate due to low usage of hops. True to style (like all our beers) using liberal amounts of chocolate and dark crystal malts, this luscious limited edition brew is smooth with a caramel-malty aftertaste, perfect for any who enjoy a less bitter beer.

Dark brown, thin tan head. Low aroma, a little caramel. Weak roasted malt flavours of bitter chocolate with a nutty element. Thin palate with fizzy carbonation. Not bad.

Light chocolate in colour with a thin creamy head. Looks pretty good. Chocolate on nose, sweet with a grainy feel. Very porter like. Chocolate and roast again to taste but unfortunately the flavours are masked with too much fizz (who would have thought a Aussie micro would every fall victim to excessive carbonation!!). Needs more flavour drive to get interesting but there is some quality underneath. Put this house on the watch list.

Deep ruby red colour with a good beige head. Aroma of golden syrup and some malt. Taste is not nearly as sweet as the aroma. There is some initial caramel flavour followed by some nice roastiness. Finally it is a little dry and hoppy. Quite complex in its own way. I really liked it.

Next on the South West list of new brews. Tasted from the bottle at home as I’ve been a little slack in hauling my ass down to the brewery. Looks good in the glass - like all the other Jarrah Jack’s beers - with a dense, rocky pad of beige settling in atop a ruby-brown body that simply shimmered in the lights. The aroma struck me as like chocolate ice-cream covered in caramel sauce with a side of burnt toast and green tea. Odd, yet interesting (the description and the aroma). Mellowed out pasty and smooth on the tongue; not big in body but had the illusion of it. Dry, smoky grains, burnt sugar and a touch of ’cherry ripe’ and molasses move across the palate with nice control and the finish is dry with just a touch of tannic astringency I find is normal for the style (in fact it was very gentle for this one). Aftertaste is all burnt wood and cocoa making it virtually mouth-watering and it actually tasted as good cold as it did warmed. Quite liked this one, had ’Friday night drinks’ written all over it. Quite dark - and it tastes like it too. Rummy, grainy, pumpernickel and regular toast dark malt character. Tastes really quite roasty and bitter, with a flinty kind of feel and loads of ashy roast malt in the finish. Some Ribena, and quite dry and refreshing. Vaguely reminiscent of Uerige in the way the lean, dry, roasty stuff makes it very drinkable and refreshing. Simple, but I like it.

Deliciously roasty and molasses like on the nose , lightly hopped with a dusty cobweb? kind of smell, has a hint of sweet soy in there as well. poured with an average sized light brown creamy head, slight lacing. Deep brown almost maroon in colour. the initial flavour was relativley sweet with slight bitterness, rounding off with slightly more bitterness to clean-up the palette. medium to full bodied with an almost syrupy texture, soft carbonation and slightly alcoholic finish. would be fantastic with a char grilled steak!!

On tap at the brewery. 5.2%. Tawny amber body, short lasting head and some wisps of lacing, some malt on the nose, soft burnt caramel in the taste , some hops are there when you are not looking for them, changes just like a brown ale. Bottled 5.0%. Seems a bit different than when I tried it on tap at the brewery. Darker in body with a head that nearly lasted. More burnt characters in the nose also a bit of liquorice and then some hops. Burnt characters in the taste, a little pepper, a bit of vegemite and then a touch thin.
