COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Generous use of dark crystal, chocolate and roasted barley malts give this black-and-ruby beer a smooth, full body. An initial honey aroma gives way to deep and malty flavours with hints of smoke and freshly roasted coffee. This complex palate is balanced against the subtle sweetness of Pemerton karri, marri and wild hop honeys, which are added to the brew after the completion of primary fermentation. Presenting with an off-white, rocky 'crema', the high alcohol content gives this true-to-style beer a desired level of warmth and balance, and makes for the perfect winter warmer.

On tap at the brewery. Not quite black in colour in the body but with ruby tinges and an off-white head. Can’t really find the honey in the aroma (only if you are looking for it), mainly some roasted coffee and some cocoa notes. Malts and honey are blended in well giving a pleasant but slightly sweet taste that is not cloying as "another" aussie honey porter, a little meaty, well carbonated and quite filling.

A tasting from 2008 and rated from old notes
Second new tasting of the day. Deepest cola brown, translucent in the light just in the edges of the glass. Not much life visible, sluggish bubble or two, but manages to hold on to a dense, creamy tan pad that shows good legs. Damp soil notes underly some treacle and molasses on the nose with just a whiff of burnt grain. Sweet in the mouth, mild buttery note precedes some dusty, caramelised and dark, bitter malts. A soft smoky edge lingers in the swallow as the woody honey flavour builds. Shows incredible length and linger. Good presence in the mouth, nicely rounded and soft and creamy on the palate. Sweetness is not too overwhelming as it warms. A very nice beer, easily sessionable stuff!!! (on Draught at the brewery, Pemberton, W.A.)

A flavourful Porter. Very sweet with residual sugar or honey. Have only tried in 2005. Hard to find. Not available in bottle. A different beer worth a try.
