1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 andyhwcinc (1135) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 5, 2013
Purchased at Binny’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed after a good work week, first Friday I’ve had at home in a long time. Since I used to go to school w/ this guy, and he was a nice guy, I figured I’d try out this brew that bears his family name (see what I did there...). Sorry but this beer just sucks. When I opened the bottle, foam exploded out and I had to let it sit for about a minute before it started to calm down. Appearance is a cloudy moderate gold with an annoyingly large while head. Aroma of clove, wheat, ale yeast. Taste is very carbonated, goes down like sparkling water, tastes somewhat like a Belgian wheat which is a bit odd. I’m not a fan, good guy, but a bad brew.
2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 ccex (795) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 17, 2013
12 oz bottle pours a cloudy golden color with huge frothy white head and clumps of lacing. It may have been an accident that the one I tried exploded with foam. Aroma is simple, and full of grains with floral hops on the finish. Taste is neutral with slight bitterness in the short finish. Body is light to medium with a crisp mouthfeel. There’s nothing etiher bad nor memorable about this one. I really wanted to like this, but it is just an average session wheat ale. If this was available in 30 packs of cans priced like the majors, I’d drink it regularly. I’m still waiting for the closest brewery to my house to produce something great, but will have to wait longer.
2.3 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 CardsPackHawks (53) - Illinois, USA - MAR 1, 2013
As a Packer fan, not sure why I ordered this while out watching a Blackhawks game. However, I enjoy wheat beers and this caught my eye. Not bad, not great. Average.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Headbanger (2471) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - FEB 14, 2013
12oz bottle 2/14/13 (Binny’s Naperville Mix a Six)-46° in Tumbler Pours a clear light golden with a small white ring for a head. Aroma of wheat and grains. Taste of wheat, hops, grains, and grass. This light bodied brew is a not too shabby American Wheat.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Frank (2188) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 15, 2012
I don’t know who Jarrett Payton is really but he seems to be famous because of his father but likes to name things after himself. He is an unexceptional but professional football player and likewise the people at Argus are unexceptional but professional brewers. This beer pours a hazy orange golden w/ a massive head of mixed bubbles. It is sort of overcarbonated with earthy and citrus overtones. It’s dry and drinkable w/ a good firm bite of hops in the finish.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 TheAlum (4289) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - DEC 6, 2012
12 oz bottle from the Binnys Singles Rack (Naperville, IL). Been sitting in the fridge for awhile now. Pours a decent hazed dulled golden hue, darker and dulled with a big cakey whitish head atop, stays as a firm layer, laces ok. Aromas are flaked wheat, dry grainy bread, and some cereal elements. Touches of citrus rind, gentle hops and florals, earth, gentle yeasty quality. Touch of soap and lemon. Initial is lighter bodied, some clover and honey, dry florals up front. An earthy hop dryness hits then moves quickly to wheat, dry bread, grains. Mellow sweetness, straw, and grass. Touches of gentle fruit ester enter into the middle, some dough and crisp malts battle back and forth. Backend shows gentle spice, yeast, and mellow citrus. Touches of mellow fruit linger, dry soapy hops, earth, and florals. Just a touch of lemon. Overall, it’s solid if forgettable. A session wheat that offers drinkability without any defining characteristic. A bit dry and effervescent into the finish. A bit fruity for me at times. Meh.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 DrnkMcDermott (2621) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - JUL 30, 2012
Single bottle from Binny’s. Pours a big bubbly head in a narrow 312 glass. Slightly spicy American Wheat smell. Taste has a bit of umami to it, later on I get a note of ale fruitiness. Mostly European hops, I think, with a finish of American cones. Small amount of sediment on the bottom gives the last inch or two in the glass a lot of floaties and a slight yeasty character. I find it pleasant.

Aroma is fruit, candy sugar and a metallic edge. The flavor is malts and heavy candy sugar and sweetness in the finish.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Pawola22 (3096) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 24, 2012
12oz bottle from Armanetti’s. Pours a mostly clear, but lightly hazed yellow-gold colored body with a thin, off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is grainy, lightly sweetened wheat malts with a touch of citrus. Flavor is similar. Grainy, doughy, lightly sweetened wheats and pale malts with a touch of citrus. Maybe a hint of grass as this finishes thin and somewhat dry with a light doughy wheat. Short aftertaste following a thin body and a moderately fizzy carbonation. Overall, not a whole lot to this one. Doughy, lightly sweetened wheats in a thin body with a touch of citrus. Eh...
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20 crossovert (4559) - Wisconsin, USA - MAR 21, 2012
More flavorful than most wheat ales so on the level of like an Oberon, but still, this style just blows.
