3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - FEB 1, 2012
Tasted this at the Troon Beer Festival in September 2004. Cask, gravity dispense. Clear ruby red in colour with a thin white head. Slight roast grain note in the short aroma. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Mixed malts give a rich digestive biscuit base with tart redcurrant fruit and roasted malt in the mouth. Dry spicy hop resins give a long aftertaste with no astringency. Finish is again dry with woody briar notes and a walnut flavour coming through. A decent Ruby Ale and worth trying.
