the bareling brings this stout up to around 10% abv. Super smooth. Equal parts chocolate, vanilla, cherry and rye whiskey. So stinking smooth. I really enjoyed the base when this came out and really love it barreled. I think the rye as opposed to straight bourbon was a good call, and can’t wait to have the barreled and unbarreled bottles side by side. Soon :)"

500 ml corked and caged bottle purchased a full two years at the brewery in Escondido ($18.00). Pours near pitch black with some brown around the edges and only a very thin layer of beige foam. Opened without any pop which is worrisome. Infected AROMA of tart dark malts, heavy booze, and some chocolate and cherries in there somewhere. FLAVOR is tart and boozy...indeed, this is infected. Also has notes of tangy dark chocolate and some kriek-style sour cherry. Finishes quite boozy. Not horribly infected, but this is certainly not good, especially since I quite liked the original. Not pleasant and very disappointing after waiting two years and paying $18. (12, 891)

At the brewery. Pours a nice dark brown with cherry hues along the edges. A bit of mocha foam here and there. Smells like cherries, sweet cherries, booze, vanilla, lots of cocoa and some bread. Flavor initially too boozey, as it warms the flavor is a bit better with the cherry really making a massive impact. Lots of cherries. Some sweet malts and some vanilla. The body is full but the Carb was a bit hi for the beer, once this was killed it got better. Nice beer. Good for a group of 4-6. Serving type: bottle 09-13-2012

From corked bottle @ Borefts 2013 afterparty. Almost black. Mon Chérie and whisky notes in the aroma. Confit cherries. Thinnish, alcoholic flavor, with roast, chocolate, and confit cherries. Some raw alcohol.

375 ml bottle - shared at the BBF13 after party. pours intense black with a nice medium beige head. Aroma is intensely chocolaty, some sour notes as well (more blackcurrant than cherries). Palate is a bit watery compared to the intensity of the nose, but overall an excellent beer.

Thanks to Dr. Bill for sharing. This black pour has a nice combination of cherry and chocolate flavors.

Bottle. Pours a black color with some reddish notes and a tan head. Aroma is of lighter cherry notes, oak, vanilla, spicy rye notes, whiskey, chocolate, roasted malt, dark caramel and some light alcohol. The flavor follows the nose more subtle notes of cherry, oak, vanilla, whiskey, chocolate, roasted malt, light alcohol, dark caramel and some of those rye like spicy notes. The body is on the lighter side of full with a creamy mouth feel. Overall a good BA Imperial Stout.

Served from a 500 mL bottle from Stone Co Store South Park. The appearance is a deep brown black with a small deep brown head. The nose is full of cherry whiskey barrel, molten dark chocolate, vanilla bean, very similar to a port nose with a light dose of heat. The flavors enter with a very forward rye whiskey in both flavor and mouth feel but without a ton of alcohol burn. More sips show the cherry pouring out the beer. Chocolate and vanilla come out a few more sips in. Tasty drunken oak with a nice grit to the tongue. After a bit the intensity of the chocolate and vanilla diminishes slightly. The mouth is full with a drying oak to it with a cherry after taste. One of the best bottle BA brews from Stone to date.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a quickly subsided head.

Aroma: Cherry children’s medicine, chocolate covered cherry cordials.

Taste: Whiksey, sweet cherry, chocolate. Woody finish. Yummy. While the whiskey was present, it didn’t come across as overly boozy.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with soft creamy carbonation.

Overall: A decadent treat that got better with some time in a rye whiskey barrel. One of my favorites in the 500 ml series.

Black pour with a khaki head. Nose is vanilla, rye, alcohol, chocolate, and leather. Great on the palate, huge whiskey notes, creamy vanilla, wood, roasted malts, light chocolate.
