(22oz bottle) Pours a huge almond-coloured head with an opaque body. Nose has hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. Full malted flavour with a burnt caramel and sugar, figs and seeds. Mildly iodine in the finish - expressing the high alcohol. Very good.

muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - JAN 20, 2004
On tap at the brewpub. I would've said this is more like an English strong (little hoppiness, woody-sweet character) but whatever. The important thing is the quality of the beer. Extremely dark molasses brown, nearly opaque, no head and very still. Big malty-sweet nose with hints of blueberries; it was served too cold so the nose was impeded for much of my sample. Very nice fruitiness throughout, very drinkable and pleasant, almost no carbonation, just a hint of bitterness at the end. Very nice, I just wish they had more offerings tonight.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2004 On tap at the brewpub. Orange/brown color, spicy sweet citrus (orange) aroma, ends sweet in a caramel sort of way with a long aftertaste. Full bodied and very nice, even though the 7% was noticeable.
