CharlesDarwin (1333), State College, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. I was afraid of this. This beer is the wheat with a few frozen blueberries dropped in. At
the least, I can hope they’re local. Color is a hazed orange-straw, with a soapy thick white
head above, stained with wisps of purple. Carbonation glows off of the berries as they
undualted in the glass. Nose comes as blueberry pancakes and dough. Spritzy, freshish and as
a parfait should be. Flavor is artificial, yet. A soapy, dried blueberry candy mingles with
light alcohol, wheat sugar, and blandess. I can taste the freezer burn crystals on the
berries. Seedy and with stems. This is such a terrible idea. What a gimmick. Finishes a
little dry and acerbic. Silphium (1981), Lansing, Michigan, USA Aug 11, 2007 On tap at the restaurant/brewery. Hazy, murky light orange-brown body, medium off-white head. Served with blueberries in the glass. Distinctive blueberry syrup aroma, backed by cerealy, acidic, biting wheat malt. Blueberry also dominates the first few sips, after which the estery yeast and tangy wheat characteristics become more assertive. What irritated me about this beer was that it is considered a "seasonal" beer, yet the blueberries floating in the glass were shriveled, frozen excuses for fruit. Put up the bucks and put at least a few fresh blueberries in the glass, folks! chris_o (4393), London, Greater London, England Jun 28, 2007 On tap at the brewpub, Ishpeming MI. Hazy straw colour with oscillating blueberries in the glass and a lasting white head, with a blueberry ripple. Pleasant fruity aroma and flavour. However, I found the mouthfeel to be a little soft - it could have done with a touch more bite. The dividing line between delicate and wishy-washy can be a fine one. Pleasant enough. Have to say though that after 5 pale offerings from an 8 beer sampler I was getting a little bored with the lighter styles, so it may have scored higher in different circumstances.
robertsreality (2462), Minnesota, USA Mar 23, 2007 Cloudly Yellow Color with White Head. Nice Fresh Blueberry Aroma. Bittersweet Taste...Alot of Blueberry Flavor Balanced by Wheat. Very Nice Fruit Beer. jtw (903), farmington, Michigan, USA Jul 20, 2005 on draft at the brewery. light gold color, with an intense blueberry aroma, and a refreshing wheaty blueberry flavor. some straw-like hops but the emphasis is on a pale blueberry beer as opposed to a wheat, which i like better. they asked if i wanted some fresh blueberries in the glass, and i gave it a try--it’s a nice touch. and yes, i ate the blueberries at the end.
