3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Skyview (4880) - Papoose Jct, USA - JUL 5, 2009
On draught at the brewpub in Ishpeming, Northern Michigan. Pours a clear dark copper colored brew with a creamy off-white head that quickly dissipates and leaves some spotty lacing. Aroma of roasted dark malt, a touch of toffee, caramel and a touch of apple vinegar. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of roasted malt, some dried nuts, a touch of vinegar and tart corn. Finish has a slight metallic texture with mostly roasted dark malt and a touch of grassy bitterness.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 johnnyoski (291) - Macomb, Michigan, USA - SEP 12, 2009
Draft at brewpub. Very dark brown pour with a thin off white head. Sweet brown sugar aroma with a hint of roastiness. Initial sweet nutty flavor turns to a tart, apple vinegar finish. A solid brown ale.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Silphium (2718) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - AUG 11, 2007
Jasper Brown Ale, on tap at the restaurant/brewpub. Deep orange-brown body, thin buff head. Cerealy, acidic, toasty nose. Very light, watery body, with toast and earthy hops, also perhaps a touch of red grape. Earthy bitter finish. Crisply carbonated. I preferred my cudighi sandwich.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 chriso (7065) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 28, 2007
On tap at the brewpub, Ishpeming MI. Murky red/brown colour. Thin beige head. Soft caramel and toffee aroma with, unfortunately, some diacetyl. The same sweet shop cocktail of toffee, caramel and butterscotch on the palate. There are some sharp notes too, turning sour on the finish, which didn’t really fit with the other attributes of the beer. Plenty of people appreciate these caramel malty brown ales. Unfortunately, I don’t. Especially with the sour elements in the mix.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 beermatrix (1497) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - JUN 26, 2003
Color is very nice for a brown, its dark brown of deep, darl, varnished oak with dark amber highlights. Thin off-white head of tight foam, creamy, small lacy patches linger then fade. Smell faintly of dark wheat, roasted malts and a great nutty backing, hazel and chestnut I believe.Taste is complex and in subtle layers, all smooth and soild of roasted malts and mixed nuts and has a very slight dark fruit, bananaish note, and a hop twingy bittering late, very interesting. Nice late dryness follows, mellowing out even more so then at first. One soild brown ale with a medium body and light grainyness thats pretty drinkable. It could use a bit more boldness, but is relaxing and good none the less. I enjoyed it. Solid offering.
