Cooter Brown was a family man who lived on the mason-dixon line during the civil war. He decided to stay inebriated for the entire war so that he would not need to pick a side. We salute his peaceful manner by naming our brew in his honor.

Jekyll Brewing’s Cooter Brown is an American Brown Ale that is smoother than silk. As you bring our Cooter Brown to your lips, you will smell deep roasty caramel notes as our creamy head embraces your stache. Once you taste Cooter Brown, you will experience a deep chocolate maltiness and an American hop bitterness balanced to perfection. 14.3° SRM 31.

Appearance: silky dark brown pour with caramel edges and a creamy light tan head that persists forever, leaving firm lacing; even poured into a crappy hotel styrofoam cup, this was a pretty beer. Aroma: smells pretty, with nice dark chocolate, some brown sugar, rolled oats, lightly burnt toast, and a bit of a cigar note. Taste: slightly sweet and roasty, with some chocolate and brown bread, a little burnt brown sugar, lightly toasted nuts, and a little vanilla. Finish: there’s a dry, slightly piney hop note on the back end to complement the roasty feel; finishes smooth and clean. Notes: Really nice brown ale. Perfect palate: smooth and creamy but not heavy. Nice carbonation. Good find. Bottle to go from a random pizza joint in downtown Brunswick, Georgia.

Poured a brown color with aromas of malt, caramel and some nut shell. Flavors match the aromas light caramel and malt with some light earth decent brown ale.

Nice caramel and nuttiness from the malt but the hops are a little unusual for the style. Creosote and juniper.

Very strong flavor with a little more bitterness than I prefer. It had a great after taste.

It pours a very dark brown with a small quickly vanishing tan head. It has a toasty malt aroma and a aroma of nuts and a roasted aroma. It has a caramel taste, a roasted taste, a little toast flavor and some nut flavor. This is a pretty good beer. I’m glad I bought it and will try to drink more from this brewery in the future.

Decent clean brown ale. Light brown color. Nutty roasty aroma. Crisp malty taste. By no means special or spectacular, but good all around.
