Panzerfaust (377), Santiago, Chile Jun 14, 2008 Pours a great beautiful, brilliant, sparkling orange/amber color.Head is medium white, and frothy... fantastic. It diminishes slowly and leaves traces against the wall of the glass and a nice film.
Aroma is malty, fruity with some yeast. Backbone of grains and bread and more in the surface, notes of oranges, tangerines, cantaloup and a touch of chardonnay wine. Not overwhelming but hell agreeable.I also feel some dusty and woody touches. The yeast?... but it’s something new for me.
Flavor is sweet and juicy. It shows hints of sweet citrus, mellon, grains and some alcoholic touches of fruit liquors. Slight bitterness in the finish adds a touch of finesse.
Body is medium to big, smooth creamy texture. Carbonation is high but not intense. The alcohol is well present and gives a nice warming sensation. A very good french beer. I liked it a lot.
weaselkenievil (374), Cheshire, England Oct 10, 2008 Bottle from some supermarket in Bergerac, France. Poured a fizzy looking reddish amber with next to no head. Remained fizzy but the head went very quickly. After the shite poured down my neck the last couple of days this should have been like finding a human woman on the planet of the apes...but it wasn’t unfortunately. Bland and uninteresting. Better than many French beers in my humble opinion, but still pretty blah blah. Bah humbug. gam (576), brisbane, Australia Sep 7, 2008 Amber colour thin head, lets say all over retention is not strong.Aroma caramel honey, malt.Flavour honey malt caramel, peanut note or hazelnut.Has a fair lasting taste but nothing tops. goozen (763), Leiden, Netherlands Sep 6, 2008 Tap at Cafe Studio, Haarlem: Amber coloured Biere de Garde-style brew, and this is the easiest one to drink in this style. Ofortuna (315), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA Sep 2, 2008 I’ve read about this one for quite awhile as being one of the oldest producers of this style. Naturally, I was very interested as being a fan of the production methods involved.
Poured a beautiful deep copper head. Biscuit aroma with bits of old hops. Flavour is sticky-sweet with bits of funk and an odd aftertaste of hay. Quite a bit of earthiness to it, but it seems out of balance with the sweet character of the malt being too forward. A little complexity behind the malt backbone. The more I had of this the more it became a chore to finish the bottle as the sweet candied corn nature of this became a bit too much in the end. Wasn’t expecting much, but I at least was thinking it’d be much drier than it was. Disappointing.
