armando629 (953), Budapest, Hungary Feb 6, 2008 0, 75 l bottle. Nice amber-brown color with a delicious small head. Moderated aroma with caramell, grains and a hint of fermented tea-leafs. The flavour is sweety and malty(roasted too) with a good balanced-moderated hop taste. The aftertaste is smoothy sour. CapedBrewsader (259), Brasschaat, Belgium Feb 3, 2008 75cl bottle: Malty aroma of caramel malts, grain, banana nut bread, warm alcohol, a little hop and low aluminum foil. Flavors of crystal malts and a quick roast touch that only lasts for a split second. CO2 brings a "green sting" to the back of the throat. Some banana and mixed fruit in middle. Long smooth but grainy finish with hops that ends with a little tin. cgarvieuk (4159), Edinburgh, Scotland Jan 18, 2008 Bottle ay home... Thanks to Toni for this ... Copper with a big foam head ... spicy hop with some caramel ... sweet fruity quite juicy little spice ... little grapefruit ... little candy suger. Fukito (604), Buenos Aires, Argentina Dec 26, 2007 Bottle @ The Rake, november 07. Clear amber color with a nice, bubbly white head. Molasses, caramel aroma with some spicyness. Caramelly, spicy flavor with some crystal notes. Slightly oxidized but nice, warming. Medium palate, a little big and clumsy but warming. Nice, warming, spicy, amber beer. davidpl (435), Santiago, Chile Dec 16, 2007 Appearance: copper amber color. Medium head, few consistency, whitish-yellowish and not much persistent.
Aroma: malty, butter, candy and sugar smells. Peaches and oranges touches. Fruity-sourness. Alcoholic.
Flavor: malty sweet start, slight toasty and candy grains, progress with butterscotch , nut and honey reminiscences. Slightly sour and with fruit-reminiscences; like stone peaches, apricots, candy-oranges and plums. Light dry-hoppy, dryness mainly from alcohol. Large and warming final. Nutty and malty aftertaste.
Palate: light to medium body, velvet texture. Medium carbonation.
Some unbalanced to started, but finally is to make up for the alcoholic degree. Nice. Perm (151), Tryon, North Carolina, USA Nov 22, 2007 Updated: Jan 23, 2008Appearance: Lovely burnt caramel color with plenty of carbonation bubbles and a nice off-white head that thins out after a few seconds.
Aroma: Mild, caramelly, ever-so-slightly hoppy, faint hint of fruit -- peaches? and a whiff of hay to finish.
Flavor: Much more complex on the tongue than on the nose. A certain lagery quality reminiscent of Warsteiner, caramel/burnt sugar tones, a sharpness that says, "drink with farmhouse cheese!", and some rustic farm qualities: fresh grass, hay, nuts, herbs.
Palate: fantastically spritzy without being too champagne-like.
Overall: it’s no St Amand (still my favorite of this style) but more complex than Castelain. Excellent with Thanksgiving Dinner -- equally good with the turkey & dressing AND the pumpkin pie! DeadGuyFrank (347), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA Nov 8, 2007 What a interesting beer, amber gold with the hints of citrus, orangey nutmeg, a bit sweet and sour tasting, your first sip might dissuade you from partaking in another, but hang in there it does get better. About two minutes after your first sip, you will get this sensation that "hey, this ain’t half bad." Still growing on me, I think my rating will change of time and another glass. A true complex beer. scanovajr (361), Stanford, California, USA Nov 2, 2007 Bottled 33cl. An amber beer with a creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet, yeast and caramel. Taste is very malty and also sweet. Very good malt profile. Alcoholic and slightly bitter end
