[can from Villard de Lans] Spicy malt aroma with obvious ethanol; green apple, pear, apricot, raisin, tobacco. Bright amber with a dense foam that doesn’t last too long, Lucious malt flavour with a little alcohol and loads of dried fruits, including dried apricot and raisin. Sort of walnutty notes come in at the end. Only a faint bitterness and no hops flavours of note. Full body, moderate carbonation, smooth and sweet finish with a little warming from the elevated alcohol.

Can from Intermarche, Nr Boulogne, France. Amber orange with a large white head. Looks good. Sweet malt aroma with a hint of fruit. Taste is sweet caramel malt with a bit of roasted nuttiness. Some bitterness. Slightly watery finish. Nevertheless this was unusual and enjoyable.

Bottled. Pours amber with a smallish head, some caramel and grassiness. OK but was expecting a bit more.

Pours a medium bronze hue with a reddish tint, accompanied by a tall, frothy, egg shell coloured head that leaves behind decent lacing. Grassy, grainy and malty aroma is decently powerful. Some light caramel notes come up, along with hazelnuts and damp earth. The flavour is sweeter than expected by the aroma, but not cloying. There’s a mild acidity up front (grapes) and it all segues into a moderately sweet finish with light acidity and a light grassy bitterness. The malt sweetness begins to develop a butterscotch roundness after a while. Medium to full bodied with a creamy texture, an otherwise lovely mouthfeel is marred by sharp, rough carbonation. And a bit toasty as it warms. Something like these pre-toasted bits of toast they have here in France. Biscottes, I think. 50cl can, Duvel tulip, bbe 06/07/08.

Slightly sweet, fullbodied, malty and with a lingering aroma. Good companion to most meals as well as on its own.

Brun-gylden øl. Sød og gøret (belgisk) duft. Smag: Sød, humlet, parfumeret, brændt og krydret. Minder om en Tuborg classic, bare tungere.
