tobias (154), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Dec 31, 2004 Updated: Jan 6, 200533 cl bottle: my first biere de garde. the pour is a nice amber color with a creamy non retenting head. highly carbonated.aroma is od grassy hops and malt, hints of caramel. the flavors is kind of like that of a vienna. overall quite matly but nicely balanced. caramel flafors with some herbal grassiness. sweet kinda buttery honey flavors. fruity with a slightly sour finish. anise and vanilla. a decent beer, the best french beer i have had. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 31, 2004 smooth easy drink. Strongly carbonated, refreshing. Like an amber with a purposeful off taste, some nuts, cuitrs, corriander, parsley salt, carrot, and malt. Different and it works. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Dec 28, 2004 Clear amber/copper coloured body with a very small off-white head. Aroma of malt, light english hops, alcohol, cardboard, toffeee and some pine. Full-bodied; Strong malt flavour with some astringent bitter flavours such as blood, metal and some odd nuttiness. Aftertaste has that funky puckering flavours with an overall alcoholic feeling. Overall, not a good beer and was worse off than expected. This is my least favourite biere de garde i’ve had thus far (1300+). I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 28-December-2004. argo0 (6861), Washington DC, USA Dec 21, 2004 (750ml bottle, best by 03/2005) Clear copper body with small beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, toffee/caramel, faint wood. Taste is moderately sweet, toffee/caramel, earthy/herbal, some wood. Finishes with some metallic, which really detracts. Light-medium body, some acidity. ogivlado (3036), Zagreb, Croatia Dec 8, 2004 Bottled8330ml). -dark amber coloured with big white head, sweet malty flavor, light caramel aroma with hints of ripe fruits, lightly syrupic and sweet finish gustytke (8), New Orleans, Louisiana, USA does not count Nov 14, 2004 Soft Amber. Quite bubbly with nice head. Beautiful aroma of honey and vanilla and oak. This most be oak aged to get the honey and vanilla smell. Incredibly smooth, not complex flavor with a slightly sweet aftertaste. Great aftertaste but not complex. Good but not great. Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Nov 12, 2004 This smelled nice, pkeasant and malty, and looked magnificent, deep peach ice tea like amber, with a big, not-quite-white firm looking head. Tasted the head - nice.. fruity even. Went on to the rest, there was something in the beginning that was fruity, but turned a bit sour (in a nice way), but watery, with the omnipresent roasty aftertaste. Amber ale meets biere de garde. Not stunning, but suprisingly good for a French beer. JensenTaster (1585), Denmark Nov 6, 2004 (on bottle) High on carbo, but wih a nice roasty wood feel, mostly in the sent.
