Choos (504), Taylors Hill, Australia Mar 31, 2004 Aroma is malt, orange, a bit metallic and noticeable alcohol. Appearance is amber heading toward red and hazy with a smallish head. Flavour starts metallic gives way to broad citrus and finishes with an orangey malt zest and sweet flowery honey. Gentle to mild carbonation and a mouthfeel that matches the drink. Crockett (904), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada Mar 24, 2004 Amber/Red pour and clear. Ample carb. Sweet. Fruity. Kiwi I guess. Kind of citric. Biere de garde. Does that mean "Hey you, beer guy, watch out!" It was good. I don't understand why they have such regard for such a simplistic style. Am I wrong? (email me). I had a Vienna right after and I didn't do Snoopy dances or anything. Question?: Is Old Vienna (O.V.) any good. I would expect they would be the troubadour of the style. beerslayer (753), New Jersey, USA Mar 23, 2004 This is not a bad stout, but it seems like it's missing something. Fruity, spicey, and malty flavors. Finishes dry and crisp. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Mar 23, 2004 Amber-red colour and an off-white head that fades to thin lace and lasts to the bottom. Caramel malt, flowers, and light fruit smells. Flavour of apricot, peaches, and dates. Great zesty malt background and some spiciness. Citrus hop finish. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 17, 2004 Updated: May 24, 2008Rerate. may 2008. Bottle. LIght reddish amber. Thin head. Light alcohol and aromatic malt. Alcohol and creamy toffee flavour. Slitghtly farmhouse funky.
March 2004 8/3/7/4/14 Very enticing delicious aroma. Hard to place the scent, perhaps tangerines. Orange colour with a very light head. Thick body with noticable alcohol taste. Strong orange flavour. Dixen (1465), Flagstaff, Arizona, USA Feb 24, 2004 Orange to amber color, with a decent white head. Aroma is somewhat sweet, musty and some hints of alcohol. Malty and smooth taste, with a nice hoppy finish. Good mouthfeel. Decent. omhper (12154), Stockholm, Sweden Feb 11, 2004 Canned. Orange-amber. Sweet and almondy. Generously malty with fairly soft mouthfeel. Somewhat funky with a mild, honeyish finish. mullet (798), Melbourne, Australia Jan 22, 2004 Well this may to a beer "to keep" but this one didn't keep all that well. Was starting to show signs of oxidation but was still pretty decent.
Musty, corky aroma with a fair bit of stone fruits (apricot and peach I think). Slight sourness which played very nicely with the sweet maltiness and slight bitterness. Good amber/copper colour and head retention.
