Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 22, 2003 Nice sweet, leathery, yeasty malt aroma. Hazy, woody brown, lotsa sediment. Way sweet, tastes like honeysuckle with an underlying astringency. Aspirin-bitter finish. I guess this is good beer, but I'm just too unsophisticated to appreciate it. Difficult drinking. Ulla (17), Halmstad, Nebraska, Sweden Oct 20, 2003 This copper-amber coloured French Bière du Garde, really has a suitable name, beer to keep. After 2 years in the cellar it gets a little less sweeter in the 75 cl bottles. Dalle (1146), Skørping, Denmark Oct 5, 2003 Updated: Oct 17, 2004No head, amber body. I didn't get much more than a malty-sweetness in both aroma and taste. Pleasent but not memorable.... 2 years of aging has made for a more rounded and memorable experience with maple syrup and bicuits. (7,3,7,3,14) jimhilt (1664), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Sep 27, 2003 Pours with a medium head, leaving some lace. Nice amber color. Malty, citrus orange nose. Starts sweet and fruity and finishes with some tartness and underlying hops. Medium bodied. Very different for a French beer. Served at Passports in Glouster, MA ($4.75).
kwoeltje (1313), Manchester, Missouri, USA Sep 16, 2003 (bottle) slightly hazy copper. Aroma fruity/yeasty, but no yeast in flavor, which is sweet, carmel, aromatic with noticable alcohol. Nate (2533), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 7, 2003 Nice nose, malty. Caramel, tea, fruity but not much hops. Beautiful dark amber clear with custard white pillowy lacing head. Medium watery body and medium soft carb. Taste is actually kind of weak. A little sweet malt, no hops. A distinct flavor is present in the finish (paper?) - may be the style. Alcohol. Almost no after. BroueNeault (157), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Aug 21, 2003 Red/Amber colour with a small head. Malt and a bit of fruit in the aroma. Taste of malt, spice and caramel. Nothing exceptional, but still a appreciable. In southern France, it is often the only decent beer available at the grocery. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 20, 2003 Bottle. Reddish colour, little head. Sweet fruit and spice in the aroma and in the flavour. Not overpowering. Thin but smooth body, not overly carbonated.
