Location: 12 oz bottle with my dinner at the The Bourgeois Pig in the East Village, which has a small, but pretty nice beer list for a place this size, if I do say so myself, 2/13/10

Overall Impression: This beer did go pretty well with the meal, and I was enjoying my fondue, so maybe I’m overrating this a bit, but it was pretty good. Amber bodied beer with a sweet malty flavor and a bit of funk. It’s pretty decent stuff, but not one of the top Belgian beers I’ve tried.

750 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, lasting head, with attractive lacing, over a hazy amber (SRM 10) body....nose is rich malts, with a roasty, toasty slightly caramel note, and finally a bit of funk....taste is slightly sweet throughout, with cereal, bread, slight apple finishing towards dry, with a final bit of funk....mouth feel is light and made sprightly by the carbonation. Meets its style quite well (it is a BJCP example) and is a very nice beer. BJCP 7/3/16/4/8

Draught at TJ’s: Aroma of light malt and slight hops. Poured amber/orange in color with a no head. Clear. Slightly sparkling. Light to medium sweet flavor. Tastes of malt, candi sugar, and light yeast. Medium body. Lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Sweet malt finish is cloying.

Moderate white head atop a stagnant, hazy tea-colored body. Very earthy nose in both minty bitterness and sugary malt, also some lightly sour cork. Heavy malt note in the flavor, some light grassy bitterness and yeast. Not very nuanced or balanced, nor is it that enjoyable.

Sample at the Eurostash II tasting on 12/12/09: Canned version. Pours a slightly hazed orange-gold color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of pale malt and floral hops. Medium body with flavors of sweet fruit, malt and mild hops. The finish is bready malt with a fruity aftertaste. Average overall.
