Commercial Description:
In 1991, the brewery decided to revive an old custom harking back to the 14th century when there were no means of refrigeration. Beer was then traditionally brewed in early December and stored over the winter under naturally cool conditions. The first barrels were only opened in March, as the days started to become warmer. It has a fresh, springlike bouquet with dominant tones of malt and grains. It is made using a top fermentation yeast, malted barley and newly harvested Alsation hops. With 5.4% alcohol by volume, it is a pure malt beer that is highly refreshing. It has a fine white head and clear golden colour, a dominant hoppy taste with a hint of fruitiness. Best served between 5 and 6°C.

330ml bottle filed dec.14/ 07 Pours a crystal clear gold with a white 1 finger cap that reduces quickly but laces well. Aromas are malty-grainy, light whiff of lemon grass from the Alsation hops. Grainy-sweetness up front gets balanced by some herbal-resinous hopping...lightly drying finish....very flavorful but simple...like a good well crafted and carried-off lager...something hard to do with an ale...but this is a prime example of uncomplicated simplicity and skill producing a very tasty, satisfying, serviceable ale

A golden ale with a thin lacing white head. Aroma is perfumed malt, with lime notes, almost like Pledge. In mouth, a crisp mineral malt with light residual sweetness, light boiled corn, again the sickly perfume notes. A bit cloying. Bottle from LCBO, Spring 2008. Tasted June 13, 2008.

Bottle LCBO. Wow I’m rating right after my beer hero LOL. A very light and simple BDG - has light session ale characteristics and some fruit, perhaps suggesting hint pear, Sweet, pleasant and undemanding - though unoffensive I did not feel like finishing it.

Hazy dark straw. Warm, malty, bready nose with a light herbal hop accent. Very sweet, sugary character with limey overtones and bready undertones. Finishes somewhat thick, quite thick and simple.

330ml brown bottle. Golden colour, head is off white and quite creamy. Good lace left behind. Grassy aroma, some lemon notes with lager like malt present. Sweetish malt is upfront, then lemon peel hop notes appear, some grain notes as well. Ends dry with grass. Body is light with a creamy mouthfeel. Refreshing.
