mgermani (553), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 20, 2008 Pours a perfectly clear golden yellow with a brief loose head and an unpleasant stale-hop and corny-malt aroma with a touch of honey. Tastes like a pilsener with just a hint of honey, but rapidly degrades in the finish. Apple juice, reminds me of the artificial sweeteners used in liquid medicine (not banana, but oddly fuirty). Body is undercarbonated and thin. I’m not entirely certain this is a Biere de Garde proper, as it tastes like a stale honey-lager. Thanks to Robinvboyer for the trade - hey, never tried Alsatian hops before, and French beers don’t come by these parts very often! Thanks!
Lubiere (3130), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Jun 13, 2008 A golden ale with a thin lacing white head. Aroma is perfumed malt, with lime notes, almost like Pledge. In mouth, a crisp mineral malt with light residual sweetness, light boiled corn, again the sickly perfume notes. A bit cloying. Bottle from LCBO, Spring 2008. Tasted June 13, 2008. DerWeg (370), Tronna, Ontario, Canada Jun 9, 2008 Bottle LCBO. Wow I’m rating right after my beer hero LOL. A very light and simple BDG - has light session ale characteristics and some fruit, perhaps suggesting hint pear, Sweet, pleasant and undemanding - though unoffensive I did not feel like finishing it. Oakes (6779), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 27, 2008 Hazy dark straw. Warm, malty, bready nose with a light herbal hop accent. Very sweet, sugary character with limey overtones and bready undertones. Finishes somewhat thick, quite thick and simple. pintbypint (872), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada May 26, 2008 330ml brown bottle. Golden colour, head is off white and quite creamy. Good lace left behind. Grassy aroma, some lemon notes with lager like malt present. Sweetish malt is upfront, then lemon peel hop notes appear, some grain notes as well. Ends dry with grass. Body is light with a creamy mouthfeel. Refreshing. douglas88 (592), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA May 22, 2008 Big thanks to matt7215 for sending me my first Biere de Garde. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. The aroma is full of sweet maltyness. The taste is fizzy and smooth; some dry apples, floral hops, tons of malt, some honey and a bit of metallic flavors. Pretty nice, like a champagne. Thanks Matt.
