Pint on draught. Pretty unexceptional. Little aroma to speak of. Generic British bitter flavours - a little malt, some hops, a moderate bitter finish. Slightly watery. No real depth or complexity to this one. Not unpleasant but not impressive.

Cask in the King’s Head W2. Darkish copper flavour, slightly nutty slightly fruity bitter. Ok, sure I had it better when younger up in Cumbria - is that age, a non-travelling beer or Marstons? Dunno.

Hand-pulled pint in ’The Smugglers’ on Cleethorpes Sea Front (10 Oct 2012). Another beer I have on a regular basis that somehow hasn’t seen me write about it. Amber body: good, deep and creamy textured white head on top. The taste and nose were fruity and malty, slightly different to the bottled version, certainly more of a caramel feel to the whole thing. Nice easy blend: mine was getting towards the end of the barrel and almost on the turn, but I know it can be a lot better than the pint I had, so my scores are higher than the pint should really get.

Dull. Like drinking water. Iced water. Why do pubs insist in chilling beer until they are nearly extinct? Next to the pub was a field and in the field was the third largest horse in England. Again, I was unimpressed. I’ve seen at least two horses that were bigger. I hope tonight’s beer explorations provide more exciting discoveries.
