"A superb golden coloured ale, brewed with malt made from specially selected Maris Otter barley and using only the finest English aromatic hops."

In tap at Four Marys in Linlithgow. Pours dark amber to brown with a proportionate head. The nose has resin and some bitterness but not a pleasant aromatic bitterness. The taste is more if the same. The palate is medium bodied and textured but unfortunately the bitterness in the end is like astringent dry malt. Overall, not a fan.

First tasted this in Coanes, Johnstone in April 1991. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear russet in colour with a thin creamy white head. Slight note of biscuity malt present in the short aroma. Thin but creamy mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malt gives a rich digestive biscuit flavour with redcurrant fruit evident. Good prickle of dusty, earthy hops in the bitter aftertaste. Finish is slightly malty with vinous cask notes present. A decent session bitter.

Cask at the wonderful Meadow Inn at Ironbridge on our family Christmas meal. In good condition but fairly bland with no dominating flavour. Dissapointing.

Cask, handpump @ The Market Porter, Southwark, CIty of London.
Tawny amber and bright with a solid and lasting white crown. The nose was less than uplifting with dusty, dirty, barnyard malt and old ’pot pourri’ hops. Quite grainy in the mouth with some very spicy, bitter, stewed stonefruit coming through. Quite sweet upfront with a raisiny tang to it. Hints of roasted nuts and flowery, dry, earthy hops fill it out. Nice length, a moderate bitterness that lingers with just a touch of cigarette ash and tea. Very light, clean mouthfeel. Pretty average overall.

Brown copper colour with thin white head. Fruity apple and hop aroma. Thin body. Sweet taste of apple juice, with a hop bitter aftertaste and a light citrus feel. Leaning more to the sweet than the bitter or sour. Little bit of caramel and malt but mostly sweet apple.
