A Mes rate: Gravicask at Battersea Beer Festival.
Mahogany red colour and in very good condition. Nice coffee malt aroma that is very Jennings. Bland but inoffensive flavour, slight tea but the return of the nice coffee for the finish sorts things out.

A weak textured mild ale, but releases a decent subtle flavour that’s worth a look.

First tasted this in Coanes, June 1993. Cask, handpump dispense. Dull black in colour with ruby highlights and a thin creamy buff head. Strong roast and coffee note in the short aroma. Thin oily mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a moist maltloaf flavour with roast grain, instant coffee and dark chocolate flavours coming through. Slight prickle of dry hops present in the aftertaste. Finish starts to run out of legs though, with just a hint of sweet malt there in the mouth. An ok session mild but there are better examples out there.

Cask at the Royal Oak, Didsbury. Dark brown with a slightly tan, fine head. Slightly sour aroma of roasted malt and caramel. Strong caramel flavor with a sour touch. Well roasted, a bit sweet. Relatively hoppy finish, surprisingly so. A nice beer. A bit too sour, but nice and smooth with a good malty taste. The head stayed the same size all the way down.

The Lime Kilns. Beige on still ruby. Raisiny sweet aroma. Chocolate and watery dried fruit in the mouth. Biscuit, wood and dusty choc afters. Sweetish, soft mild with a hint of tedium.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Wig and Pen Northampton. A murky looking dark brown coloured beer with an off white head and lacing. The aroma is pretty thin with a hint of fruit. The taste is weak and watery. Hints of fruit and caramel. Not much going on. I am sure this beer used to be better when Jennings was independant.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Dark red-brown with a small off-white head. Toasty malt aroma. Sour, earthy, ashy taste with no sweetness and a little bitterness. Rather grim.

Cask conditioned @ Cricketers, Easton. Light bodied with some lightly roasted malt flavours, not too sweet which is a good thing because theres nothing to balance that if it was. Decent enough for quick refreshment but a little on the watery boring side.

Cask, Cow and Plough, Stoughton. Nealry black with red tints, dense cream foam. Aromas are malty in a weetabix sense with hints of metal. Flavours are light, yet flavoursome, malts. Sweetened weetabix with light bitterness towards the finish. Some sharp citrus notes. A decent mild.
