3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle at home. Mid to dark brown with a hint of red. Carbonation reasonably heavy. Weak aroma of malt loaf, hints of chocolate. The taste is much more bitter than the cask version. Some sweet edges shine through after initial taste, and the bitterness fades a bit in finish. Overall: I want more from this beer but donít get it.

I rate beers I think significantly better than average, simple as that. I am not into showing off through word games. :) Significantly better in cask.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Very dark brown almost black non-amber pour. Canít believe they left the sneck lifter story out of the description but Iím not going to add it here because it doesnít describe what the beer is like so youíre missing out. Bit malty, bit hoppy, bit wheaty. There you go, much better.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Big beige head. Clear deep brown body. Earthy toasted bread and licorice aroma with toffee notes. Dry-sweet earthy spicy licorice taste with salty notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish spicy salty licorice aftertaste with roasty earthy herbal notes. Nice, drinkable, quite a bit of flavour. Better than expected. (0.5l bottle, from Co-op, Whitby.)

Bottle. Pours slightly hazy darkish copper brown with airy off-white head. Dusty aroma of malt and caramel with a note of roasted nuts. Dusty, bitter flavour of hops and malt with roasty notes. Not bad!

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(Bottle): Pours a dark brown with a small off white head. A roasted malt aroma with a hint of caramel but the nose is a little weak. The taste is initially a fruity, malty, caramel flavour but slowly changes into some big smokey/burnt notes, coffee and very dark chocolate. Faint but pleasant liquorice notes in the aftertaste. A very good beer, underrated in my opinion.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Iím so glad this ale is from the pure lake district. That makes all the difference. Its deep amber with a thick, frothy, light beige head. This beer is sweet and gummy smelling. The flavor is same as are a lot if not most of the beers in Hong Kong. Thatís all I get. Old english bitter and thick guminess. I appreciate the story on the bottle but I donít think the fact the expiry is 15 months past due will help this beerís situation.
