3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cask @ Standing Order. Deep dark brown/mahogany with stable head. Aroma is richly malty with a good deal of overripe fruit. Unique flavors have a good dose of licorice roots, the crust of dark fruit bread. Has old ale qualities, unique and peculiar. Very malty and solid with licorice root, herbal black molasses, and mild acidic coffee. Finishes with mincemeat, and sugar date crusts. Very good.

Medium brown with a nice head. Dark sugars, burnt orange, treacle and sticky toffee pudding...fun nose. Deep treacle/molasses character. Nice, subtle plummy-fruity depths, accented by a hint of alcohol. Complex, well-constructed beer. Very tasty.

Dark brown head, tiny white head. Wineous, a bit vinegardish, dark malty nose. Flavor has soya sauce, caramel, dark toffee and then light hops in the aftertaste. Cask past its prime?

Cask, Agricultural, Penrith. Liquid sticky toffee pudding! Deep ruby red appearance, heavy on the caramel, hence the pudding comparison. Burnt malt aftertaste, with whisky creeping in, alongside some sulphur and raisins.

Back in Feb 2006 I erroneously entered the cask rating for this beer under the bottle heading. Having recently had the bottled version, I will now cut-and-paste my cask rating from 2006 here, where it belongs:
Had this in Cumbria in the Lake District. Beautiful mahogany brown. Bready aroma, some caramel too. Rich roasted malt palate, brown sugar, chocolate, bitter finish. Almost a porter in some respects. Terrific!
