[Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] Chestnut with a moderate, creamy head. Wood, chocolate and coffee with a light bitterness. Mellow, indulgent and tasty, this is a lovely beer… but oddly it’s still not a patch on the bottled version.

This stuff is consistently underrated. Marvellous stuff! It has a caramel/chocolatey zing.

Cask, full pint at Minster Inn. Creamy, tan-coloured head that stays well leaving spotty lacing down the glass. Bright mahogany coloured body – very nice, indeed. Semi-sweet caramel nose. Dark caramel taste added by a touch of chocolate. Smooth roasted bitter finish. Medium bodied. Tasty (York, 26.01.2013).

Guest Cask at the Clarendon, Leicester. Dark ruby red colour with off white creamy head. Big malty aroma. Surprisingly drinkable. Malty taste with slightly sweet finish and bitter aftertaste. Nice- certainly rather have this than a hobgoblin. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had this at a pub in the midlands. Its a low abv old ale that is lacking in the palate and flavor departments. I would give this tap a miss.

Cask conditioned at tge Ralph (jdw), Richmond. Medium off white head. Mahogany body. Grainy malt, oak, red fruits, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, toffee, must be some black malt in there, coca coka and some coffee. Pretty bitter. Dry finish. Soft mouthfeel. Not as good or as complex as it once was.

Cask. Dark brown with a slight haze, ruby hints and a thick tan head. Deep malt and straw nose. First wave in mouth is malty then a whole swathe of Licorice. Really rich Licorice flavours which then fade back to a pleasant bitter finish with woods and a little malt sweetness.

Cask @ Moon Under Water. Rated on 28.11.2012
Aroma is malty with toffee. Flavour is also rather malty with toffee, some nuts and caramel. Usually I am not a friend of malty English ales but this one was good.

The colour is red chestnut. Hoppy, creamy and sweetish with slight coffee and then mild bitterness. Could so easily be a session beer!
