Sledge Jr (2705), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Feb 13, 2008 In the bottle from Liquor Mart, Boulder. Pours deep gold with a large white head. Flat fish-food-looking flakes float throughout the beer. Corn aroma. Malty like an American cheap malt liquor. Mild bitter finish. This is either really old and should not have been sold to me by the Liquor Mart, or it is just a crap beer in general.
tronraner (1382), (Louis-, Sevier-, Knox-)ville, Tennessee, USA Aug 5, 2008 660 mL bottle. Pours clear brilliant gold with reasonable off-white head. The aroma is pear, toast, and harsh alcohol. The flavor is spice, paper, bread, some ripe fruit, and a strong, unpleasant chemical finish. Meh. apshah99 (75), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 3, 2008 Golden pour with thin white head, sugary effervescent aroma, almost like carbonated fruit juice. Taste is sweet malt then an almost metallic bitterness in the aftertaste. If the metallic/chemical overtones were not there this would be a really nice refreshing beer. The description looks completely wrong here on ratebeer as there is nothing with chocolate or almonds in the taste, and this definitely does not seem like an English strong ale (the bottle says Belgian style). GarrettB (382), Centennial, Colorado, USA Jun 26, 2008 I was a big fan of the Jerome Negra. It might have even been the first Southern Hemisphere sourced beer I enjoyed, leading me to have high expectations for their Diablo. The 1cm dry wall gray head puffs up neatly like a slice of white bread, and from it comes a moderately hoppy aroma with plenty of white grape juice to drape the hops in a toga of calming sugar. Corn Pops and organic tahini also accompany the hops, making an overall very sweet and sticky scent. The taste is similarly sweet, but nuttier, re-introducing the tahini paste taste, along with bitter apple, mild hops, mild bitterness and a meekly acrid caramel aftertaste. I’m not enthusiastic about this beer, much preferring the Jerome Negra. ditmier (163), Boise, Idaho, USA Jun 23, 2008 2008 Bottle - What the hell????...Pours yellow, small head, smells like dead fish and rotten milk, flavour follows, slight bitterness, metallic, finishes with a creamy undertone, not my cup o’ tea... tytoanderso (1167), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA Mar 17, 2008 600ml bottle. Skunky cardboard, stewed vegetables, rotting mint and alcohol on the nose. Pours light, clear gold with a quickly disappearing white head. Has all the appearance of a slightly better than average pale lager. Flavor is hot, brash and a mess. Light hoppy notes, DMS, rotting fruit peel. Ugh... lasting, offputting wet grass finish. Not so much...
