GarrettB (398), Centennial, Colorado, USA Aug 4, 2008 Though the name is pretty...lofty, the Golden Archangel from Jerome has little of the substance its title implies. A fuzzy head gives rise to a tingling head, like Sprite, with muscular lacing attached to the glass from top to bottom. The color is a mix of orange and peach, with a blush of pink in the light and a bevy of bubbles clinging desperately to the edge of the glass. As per the style, the aroma is light and refreshing, delicately hopped and an equally delicate sweetness. Wildflowers and a light cotton candy add depth to this breezy scent. The flavor is abruptly more intense, with vast volumes of alcohol drowning out most everything else. White grapes and a brie cheese bitterness make a feeble attempt at the start of the sip, but are ultimately squelched under the deluge of alcohol. Way too strong! TOo much alcohol, too little anything else. waolsen (950), Littleton, Colorado, USA May 1, 2008 bottle. darker yellow with thin white head. strong alcohol in aroma. malty aroma similar to malt liquor, light fruits. harsh. poorly balanced. week old bad wine. Instantly burns the stomach. Drain pour. A disaster of a beer. Ernest (4197), Boulder, Colorado, USA Jan 20, 2008 Bottle.
Head is initially small, fizzy, white, mostly diminishing.
Body is dark yellow.
Aroma is lightly malty (grain, caramel), lightly hoppy (herbs), with notes of apple, candy sugar, and alcohol.
Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, unclean.
Medium body, watery texture, lively/fizzy carbonation, moderately alcoholic.
Pretty disappointing...grainy, appley nose and a foul, rough, overly bitter aftertaste. Crude, almost like a ruined cider. ratman197 (2242), Arvada, Colorado, USA Dec 30, 2007 750 ml bottle that was hell to open as per earlier rerviews poured a clear gold with a small lasting white head. Aromas of straw, candi sugar, yeast and a hint of corn. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of straw, candi sugar, light fruitiness, vanilla and a hint of spice with a smooth lingering semisweet finish. More of a Belgian Golden Ale than a Quad in my opinion. bhensonb (2832), Woodland, California, USA Dec 15, 2007 Bottle from Corti Bros. in Sacramento. Wine frig temperature. Took a special tool to remove the plastic cork, which came out with a pop. Orange tinged gold color with a vigorous white head. Warm caramel aroma with some fruitiness. Quite pleasant. Medium body with mild, creamy carbonation. Heat shows up at once. The flavor is lightly sweet with a little fruit. The finish is pretty dry with some floral hop notes. After a few sips the alcohol tends to blend in a bit, but it is everpresent. Something of an overheated Belgian. Very drinkable. It is going well with dinner (beef).
