3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bhensonb (7592) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 8, 2006
Aroma of chocolate and toasted malt. Opaque brown/black color and a head that quickly disipated. Tastes something like original Guiness - really toasted, smoky malt, with chocolate that comes and goes. Pretty dry, and a nice bitterness to balance the non-sweetness? Pretty nice mouthfeel - starts medium, then thins out. Very good.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Lubiere (7002) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 6, 2008
A dark almost opaque brown ale with a thick bubbly light moka head. In aroma, bitter chocolate with briney olive notes, and nice coffee finale. In mouth, a good torrefied malt with light vinous notes, but the finale is like sucking on pennies, coppery. Tasted in late nov. 2006.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (6843) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUN 2, 2007
Pours a slightly oily black with a nicely-lacing frothy dark tan head. Aroma of slightly earthy semi-sweet dark caramel and chocolate malts with a faint touch of diacetyl. Body starts slightly sweet and caramely with a hint of butterscotch complexity and lingering dark chocolate in the finish. A nice stout.

31st July 2009 Oapque black beer. Light crisp palate. Smooth malt, sourish like a good porter. Very light smoke, barely there. Mild sour fruit. Smooth, almost creamy, dark malt and a nice minerally finish. Finally a decent Argentinian beer!
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 BeerandBlues2 (6127) - Lone Tree, Colorado, USA - OCT 9, 2006
Bottle. Pours opaque with a medium sized foamy, fizzy brown head, mostly diminishing. Aroma is heavy roasted chocolate malt (straw, hay, meal), sour yeast (sweat) and woodsy ashy notes. Medium sweetness to start, caramel and chocolate roasted malt with notes of coffee and wood, sour slightly bitter yeast, mild acidity. Medium to full bodied, fizzy and foamy mouthfeel, ends a tad dry. I was impressed with this beer given the region it comes from. A little overkill on the roasted malts and the carbonation is a bit too much for a stout.

600 ml bottle poured a translucent black with a large lasting tan head. Aromas of roasted malt, bakers cocoa and hints of licorice, smoke and vanilla.Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of dark chocolae, roasted malt, light licorice and vanilla and a hint of smoke with a crisp lingering bittersweet finish.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Ughsmash (5836) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 2, 2009
660mL bottle. Poured medium-deep brown with a short-ish cap of tan head.. settled quickly and left a dusting. The aroma picked up sweeter caramel, honey, and molasses notes backed by raisins, cocoa, and a pinch of dark fruit.. middle of the road stout-wise. The flavor wasn’t so good.. it opened with an odd oaky/vinegary tartness with tacky, pervasive oxidation and cardboard spewing onto the middle.. molasses and tar formed a bit of a base.. bitterness was light and coffee-inspired.. the nasty components stuck on the finish for far too long. Medium-bodied and slick at times on the palate.. odd, misplaced tartness in places.. not a good feel at all.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BückDich (5467) - McCall, Idaho, USA - MAY 22, 2007
Bottle: Dark color, nice tan head and superb lacing. The nose is very roasty and smoky with a sweet charbroiled note. Like some coffee rubbed pork spring rolls or something. The flavor is a bit more intense with a nice mineraly mouthfeel to accent the roast and sweet underlying malts that are obvious underhopped for a reason. Trying to eek out that nutty sweet quality like guinness maybe? Their water is made for it. Maybe that’s why their lager sucked balls.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5187) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 3, 2006
UPDATED: SEP 4, 2006 Bottle.
Head is initially average sized, frothy/fizzy, brown, mostly diminishing.
Body is absolutely opaque black (flashlight tested).
Aroma is moderately malty (husks, burnt grain, stale coffee), with notes of ashes and tar.
Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter, husky.
Medium to full body, watery texture, lively carbonation.
This will probably get reasonably good ratings from the majority, as it has enough dark malts to help cover up the problems. Roasted to hell and back, with all the grain husks left in, but it certainly is the best of the three I’ve had so far from this brewer. Almost drinkable. They do get props for achieving opacity, though.
