Herb beer with positive taste evolution due to refermentation on the bottle. Spiced with garlic.

Blonde légèrement trouble, bulles fines pour pétillance moyenne, peu de mousse. Bien équilibrée avec une amertume un peu plus prononcée. Un rien sucrée, notes fruitées et épicées, l’alcool se fait sentir sur la fin.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - BBE 11/05/13, at Cafe Thembi, 20130605) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was quite large and white. Aroma had fruitiness, tangerine and honey. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, citricness, hops, sweetness, honey and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. A nice hoppy tripel. I didn’t notice the garlic at all.

Pours a clear golden-orange color, darker than most tripels. Medium white head with good retention and lacing. High carbonation was very apparent with the amount of small bubbles in the beer. Aroma is yeast, floral hops and coriander. Flavor is similar--crisp sweetness from crystal malt to go along with the yeasty and floral notes. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Masks the alcohol well. Not the greatest tripel I’ve ever had but a very nice beer.

On tap at Take One, Maastricht. Good colour, decent head with so-so retention. Lovely yeasty aroma and a well-balanced bitterness all around. Alcohol is not hidden – and that’s not a bad thing! The beer develops little complexity with some spicy notes. Yet, the bitterness remains dominant. Nice aftertaste. Overall a lovely tripel.

Ziet er goed uit, mooie plakkerige kraag. Weinig aroma, smaakt vrij zoet, wat fruit in de nasmaak, weinig koolzuur en een wat vlak mondgevoel. Dit is geen gedenkwaardige tripel.

Hazy golden coloured body with a bright copper coloured glow, a thin one centimetre tall off-white head and a zillion super small bubbles really slowly rising to the top. Aroma of yeast, more yeast and bread, a bit of curacao, some caster sugar, a hint of alcohol and some fruits. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence, a lot of oranges and curacao, some raisin sweetness, a good alcohol bite and a noticeable alcohol burn at the end. Aftertaste shows some complexity, but largely focused on the wheat, yeast, alcohol and citrus notes. Overall, a decent trip, but nothing compared to some other belgies and of course, some more accessible beers here stateside. Still nice to try of course, but if I knew about this prior to buying the beer, I would have packed something else in my suitcase. I sampled this 33 cL stubby bottle purchased from Beer Mania in Bruxelles, Belgium on 30-June-2012 for €2,99 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the pond on 07-March-2013, with a date on the bottle of 13-January-2013.

330 ml stubby bottle, poured into a tulop glass. ABV 8% Deep orange copper colour, just a tiny bit hazy. On top sits a big head, three fingers tall, soapy and white in colour. Good retention and nice lacing left around the glass. Hoppy aroma, with alcohol notes, a bit fruity and yeasty. Quite nice. Bitter taste, with nice fruity notes entering just when the bitterness starts to overwhelm the beer, making it a well balanced beer. Aftertaste is definitely bitter though with a long finish. Medium to full body, good carbonation. Nice tripel, I wouldn’t say no to a bit more bitterness though.

Bottle as a gift, 33cl. Pours dark orange, bit murky. Spicy sweet nose, fruity esters also. Sweet balanced tripel. Will work on any crowd.

26/X/2012 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Klaas’ place - BB: 14/VI/14 (2012-1180)

Clear yellow to light orange beer, small aery white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: bit sweet, sugary, spices, bit cheesy, grass and herbs. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, bit sugary, citrus, bit dusty, alcohol is clearly noticeable, bitter hops, grassy. Aftertaste: some citrus, hops, bitter, little sweet. I remember in the past I was able to detect chives, but not this time. Wonder if it’s still brewed with garlic.
