4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Imperial Stout rating #50, yay!
Pours almost black with some red/brown hues and a small brown ring clinging to the glass.
Aroma has coffee, heavily roasted (almost burnt) malt, chili, subtle smoke, some dark fruit note and slight cocoa powder.
Taste has tobacco/cigar, almost burnt malt, dry chocolate, coffee and smokey chili.
Full bodied, low carbonation, smooth mouth feel.
After taste is chocolatey dry with a lingering heat that grows with each sip.
Well balanced chili stout, really like the dryness.

Pours pitch black with a small tan ring. Smells strongly of coffee. Taste is coffee, coffee, and coffee with a little bit of smoke. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and very soft mouth-carbonation, Jester King/Mikkeller Weasel Rodeo finishes with a subtle booziness.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
750mL thanks to djd07. Pours fully ink, opaque, but no carbonation to speak of. Small nucleation points. Nose is getting to that really unfortunate Danish stout nose of tar, oxidation/red apple, soy sauce. Savory but much too salty. Taste brings some modest chili pepper heat that is nice but there is no palate to create this beer. Instead the mouthfeel is like dead silt, chalky yeast in suspension with tar and soy sauce. Doesn’t come together as a beer unfortunately. Disappointing.

Bottle, shared by Ian. Lustrous very dark brown pour with a thick brown head. Rich coffee aroma with underlying burn malts and vegetal undertones. Coffee-centered palate, rich and natural without becoming acrid, with some saliva-inducing fruit acids, a hint of meaty smoke, and a perfect chilli heat waaayyy at the back of the throat that is a welcome finish. So drinkable and delicious.

Had a taster at the phillybeerscene bottle share. My god. Between this, Mexas Ranger, Mexican Cake and Hunapu, we had some great chili pepper beers! Aroma is mocha coffee with sweet vanilla and chili notes. Pours blackety black black with no head and faint beige lacing. Taste is incredible with a dark chocolate blending nicely with coffee and chillies. A little smokier tasting which made for a great chipotle finish. I’m actually not sure if I’d like the bourbon version but time will tell.

Thanks to Riemer for this. Man this thing is a monster. Pours ink black with a brown top. Aroma is coffee, roasted malts and hot peppers. Taste is roasted malts, coffee notes and then on comes the chili peppers. Hotness just grows on you as you drink more. Glad I shared this one as I may have imploded with a bottle to myself.

Bottle shared with the Ottawa crew. Black with foamy but thin dark brown head. Smokey, some chipotle, roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee grinds, bit of vanilla to balane the bitterness. Mild carbonation, moderate+ body, vanilla, oak, some chilli, coats the palate.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
750mL bottle. Poured very deep brown with an almost equally dark head. The aroma picked up sweet, roasty, slightly nutty coffee joined by sweeter chocolates and vanilla.. warm, toasted peppers, rye, and smoked malt around.. a lot going on, and it worked for me. The flavor found milkier chocolates and earthy/nutty coffee at the core.. smoked malts, building peppery warmth, and greener coffee on the edges.. chipotle heat really built up by the finish, and was joined by greener coffee and alcohol warmth.. very tasty! Heavier-bodied with moderate carbonation on the palate.. a touch sharp and salty on the palate, but otherwise well-balance.. excellent stuff!
