Ambrée was inspired by the rustic farmhouse ales of French Flanders, particularly those brewed by Brasserie Thiriez in Esquelbecq — one of our favorite breweries in the world. Ambrée is a dry, tart, naturally conditioned amber ale fermented and matured with dozens of different strains of brewers’ yeast, native wild yeast, brettanomyces yeast, and souring bacteria. It’s 6.4% alcohol by volume, has a finishing gravity of 1.005, and is 3.5 pH.

Tap at CBC 2014. Beer in the glass red-brownish, small head. Mild sourish aroma. Starts mild sourish with some fruity notes, fine fruity notes of some berries. Finish milder sourish, light salty notes. Not bad!

Bottle on the train to Portsmouth thanks to Colin. Murky brown with a medium sized tan head. Red berries, dusty, funky, white grapes, band aid. Medium body, oily texture, high carbonation, medium sweet, light bitter, light acidic. Refreshing, good drinkability.

Bottle... Pours murky and dark with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. Great retention. The bouquet is spicy, a touch funky and slightly phenolic, accompanied by an undercurrent of caramel. Medium-bodied with a coarse mouthfeel and busy carbonation The flavor is tart and tannic with a modest measure of citrusy, lemony character. Finishes astringent and bone-dry.

Bottle shared by Colin during the IoW Jolly. It pours murky deep amber with a small white head. The nose is juicy, earthy, bubblegum, orange peel, candy, mild spice and funk. The taste is crisp, tart, some acidity, lactic, sour green apple, red berry, grape skin, sherbet and lemon peel with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Crisp, tart and juicy. Very tasty indeed.

Bottle shared at Natifest ’14. Poured a cloudy amber color with an average fizzy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour yeast and malt aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy sour flavor with a medium to heavy sour finish of moderate to long duration. This is a solid beer.

Pours a hazy copper from the bottle with fluffy white head that leaves light lace. Aroma of nice funky barnyard hay and sour lactic notes with nice caramel malt back end. Taste follows, nice balance, more funky than sour, minimal other flavor. Good carbonation, mild acidity, good stuff.

Keg at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014, blue session. 02/05/2014. Dark orange / caramel coloured pour with alasting off white head. Aroma is tart berry, raspberry, crisp. Flavour is clean and crisp raspberry berry, tart. Palate is crisp and light, touch of acidity. Very clean flavours.

750 ml bottle opened at Natifest thanks to errl. Pours a hazed copper with a white head. The aroma is caramel and sour apples. The taste is sugary sweet and big tartness. Musty sweet. Medium carbonation.

750 ml bottle shared by JStax at Natifest - thanks again, Jeremy! Batch #1, bottled November 12, 2013. Pours a hazy, dull muddy fruit juice color with minimal wisps of head and a ring. Aroma of a lot of funk - almost Fantome-like - with muddled fruit primarily characterized by plum, peanuts, brown sugar, leaves, oak, and toast. Flavor of leaves, funk, bready malts, straw, apple, plum, dry grains, and some spice. Light-medium bodied, with a funky, dry, tart mouthfeel and low carbonation. Doesn’t strike me as a true ’Flanders’ but the inspiration is there and this is an interesting sour.

Thanks to jstack @ Natifest --- Cloudy medium amber with a rim head, dots of lace. Taste is caramel malt that adds spice and fizzy fruit. Minor bittering in the finish. For me, this is strong and heavy, not as appealing as I expected.
